Consumer Reports Doesn’t Like This 1 Kia EV6 Feature

While Consumer Reports does have a variety of praise for the 2022 Kia EV6 electric vehicle, the publication also has some things they do not like about this EV crossover. One major flaw Consumer Reports has found with the new EV6 is its split-use of controls. The audio and climate controls share the same buttons. Forcing driver and passenger to switch between modes depending on their needs. This may seem convenient at first, but it is likely to be a point of inconvenience down the road.

What one feature does Consumer Reports not like for the EV6?

The 2022 Kia EV6 boasts the efficiency of an EV crossover with the practicality of a spacious interior.

Physical climate and audio control are always appreciated, especially in an automotive world with more and more screens. But, the Kia EV6 managed to make these controls less convenient. According to Consumer Reports, the climate and audio controls share the same buttons. And in order to adjust various things, you have to switch back and forth.

It may look like a clean and cool feature but when driving, things can quickly become difficult in this EV model. The button to switch between functions is small it poorly labeled. It also provides no feedback when being pressed.

The design of the 2022 EV6 is not all bad

While the climate and volume controls may be a frustrating design choice, all is not lost for the 2022 Kia EV6. The drive mode button is placed front-and-center on the steering wheel. Better yet, with mounted paddles, switching between brake regeneration levels is an easy task.

Additionally, this electric crossover boasts sustainable and premium-feeling materials. Which is something that is likely to be appreciated. Consumer Reports also notes that the interior design of the EV6 lends itself to being fairly practical. Because this is an EV, there is no need to hide a large transmission tunnel or other elements that can take up interior space.

Should you purchase the new Kia EV6?

As an all-electric crossover, the 2022 Kia EV6 is extremely attracitve.

If you are interested in buying a new EV crossover, the 2022 Kia EV6 can be a practical choice. It has up to 310 miles in its estimated range and boasts available all-wheel drive. As an all-electric vehicle, this model can also benefit from available tax incentives. Which helps to lower its initial cost.

Actually buying the 2022 Kia EV6 may be a different story though. Prospective buyers have found that Kia dealerships are not immune to inventory shortages. And where EV6 models can be found, they often face serious dealer markups. Which can be frustrating to those who want to make an automotive upgrade.

We can only hope that the market can stabilize so more interested parties can check if the Kia EV6 is the right EV crossover for their needs. Lower markups and more inventory would likely help the EV6 gain more popularity. This model has already gained attention from award shows and critics. But that does not guarantee it will be a good seller. In order to convince the public of its practicality, more models will need to get on the road, ideally without making buyers pay well over the sticker price.
