Consumer Reports has various years offered for each model because the price can vary depending on the equipment. Some models might be more expensive due to additional safety features or lower mileage.

The 2005 to 2009 Toyota Corolla is about as reliable as it can be. It scored well on all of the Consumer Reports tests. It won’t be the most exciting ride, but it is comfortable and handles well. Buyers might have difficulty finding ESC within the price range, but it might be worth it. CR says a 2009 Toyota Corolla or later will offer the most comprehensive safety features.

Looking at the 2005 to 2009 Toyota Prius, Consumer Reports gave it high marks on all tests. It scored well on the road test, reliability, and owner satisfaction. With 42 mpg and a price of around $5,900, the Toyota Prius is one of the best used cars. CR says to aim for a 2007 Toyota Prius or later due to ESC and standard curtain airbags.
