Members of the United States Coast Guard were shocked! The driver of the U-Haul truck ignored their commands to stop. All they could do was open fire in an attempt to protect themselves as the truck targeted the base entrance.

California Coast Guard fires at U-Haul truck during attack

Police officers are assisting California Coast Guard members in an investigation following a violent attack. Security personnel were stationed at the front entrance of the Almeda Base when, without warning, a U-Haul truck began speeding directly at them.

The incident occurred around 10 PM as the driver ignored multiple commands to stop. Gunfire erupted as officers shouted orders and the truck driver accelerated into a barricade.

As officers discharged several rounds of live fire, the U-Haul truck continued to back in close to the base’s entrance. The vehicle’s actions posed a direct threat to Coast Guard and Security personnel. Luckily, none of the members were injured.

But the driver and passenger of the truck fled the scene, abandoning the box truck. Later in the evening, two men arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds. According to ABC 7 News, one of the men is believed to be the driver.

He is being held for a mental health evaluation. The other person was determined to be hit by a fragment. They were treated for their injuries and later released. There is an ongoing investigation into the incident. Now the FBI is involved.

The base is located on Coast Guard Island. It’s a 67-acre man-made island that’s federally owned. Visits from the general public without an escort or specific government identification are prohibited.
