With a rebel yell, she cried more, more, more. Luckily for her, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 was listening, because it’s about to get more power. Specifically, the Duramax diesel engine is getting a boost for the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500

How much power does the 2023 Chevy Silverado Duramax diesel have?

For the 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500, the 3.0-liter inline-six Duramax diesel engine cranks out 305 hp and 495 lb-ft of torque. This is a 10 percent increase in power and a 7.6 percent torque increase.

Currently, the Duramax engine provides 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The extra power spawns from engine component upgrades such as new steel pistons with a revised combustion bowl, a retuned turbo compressor, new fuel injectors, and enhanced temperature control features.

John Barta, the assistant chief engineer of diesel engines, shared that the improvements made to the popular Duramax diesel build upon the already advanced design of the first-generation engine.

He explained that Chevrolet often hears customers express their satisfaction with the outstanding fuel economy and smooth, quiet power of the current diesel engine.

They can’t wait for them to experience this advanced engine, made possible by the continued design evolution and advances in engine technology.

2023 Chevy Silverado 1500: What’s new?

The upgraded Duramax diesel engine for the 2023 Chevy Silverado will be available with the Custom, Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country trim levels. It’s paired with the same 10-speed automatic transmission.

It’s basically available on all terms except for the new Silverado 1500 ZR2 Bison trim, which is built for off-roading. It’s a little odd to prevent this option from going into an off-roader that could benefit from extra torque.

The Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 Bison is only available with the 6.2-liter V8 engine that provides 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. It’s also paired with the 10-speed automatic transmission with front and rear electronically locking differentials.

It has five underbody skid plates, rocker panel protectors, stamped-steel bumpers with integrated step plates, and front tow hooks. The new bumpers should improve the Silverado’s approach angles, but the official figures haven’t been released.

Also, the ZR2 Bison rides on 18-inch wheels wrapped in 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires. It has an 11.2-inch ground clearance.

How much does the 2023 Silverado cost?

The 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 price starts at $35,600. This is the MSRP, so the price does not include the destination fee or dealership markups. Also, the Silverado ZR2 Bison raises the price to $78,490. The ZR2 starts at $71,545.

We will update you once the official pricing for the enhanced Duramax diesel engine is released. So far, the improved Duramax engine and the new ZR2 Bison are the only updates for 2023. But new options could emerge later in the year.

The Silverado just got a brand new interior design with updated tech for 2022, so it still feels fresh. We can’t wait to see how the ZR2 Bison and new diesel engine compare to the rest of the lineup.
