The Chevy Silverado EV Trail Boss Brings Rugged Electric Truck Dominance to the Trails

Will the new Chevy electric truck beat Ford to the punch with an off-road version? It’s certainly possible. The Chevrolet Silverado EV Trail Boss hit the stage at the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, alongside the Work Truck and RST trims. With Chevy ready to offer an off-road variant of their electric truck, could the Silverado EV take the lead in the market?

Only a few details were revealed about the new Chevy electric truck in Trail Boss form

The electric Silverado offers an interesting style that reminds us of the Avalanche truck. While we don’t know much about the new Trail Boss version, we know a few things. GM Authority tells us this new off-road-oriented model of the Silverado EV will have:

  • All-terrain tires
  • Matte black body cladding
  • Red tow hooks in the front bumper

The Trail Boss model shown on stage had smaller wheels than its siblings, allowing the thick off-road tires to fit this truck. We expect this trim to offer a lifted suspension, standard air springs, and locking differentials.

Could the electric Silverado Trail Boss come with Crab Walk?

The new Chevy Silverado EV rides on a narrower version of the GMC Hummer EV Ultium platform. This similarity might allow the new Chevy electric truck to have some of the same off-road features as the GMC model, including Crab Walk. So far, Chevy is keeping most of the details under wraps.

How much will the Chevy electric truck cost?

The price of the new electric Chevy truck is still unknown for the Trail Boss trim. We know the base price will be the WT trim at $39,900, and the RST will be the top trim for the Silverado EV, and it’s priced at $105,000. Our best guess is the Trail Boss could initially be priced at $50,000, and an LT Trail Boss might reach $80,000. This is assuming the Chevy Silverado EV follows the same trim structure as the gasoline Silverado 1500.

Is the electric Silverado Trail Boss 4WD?

The Trail Boss name would be useless if this truck didn’t include 4WD. The new electric Chevy truck has two electric motors, one at each axle, providing the 4WD setup desired. This also ensures this electric Silverado has 664 horsepower and 780 lb-ft of torque.

How many miles can a Chevy electric truck get?

The maximum claimed driving range on a full charge of the 200-kWh battery pack is 400 miles. Expect the Chevy Silverado EV Trail Boss to get less than this because of the all-terrain tires used for this off-road truck.

How long does it take to charge the new electric Silverado?

Similar to many of the new electric vehicles on the road, the Chevy Silverado EV will be capable of adding a high percentage of its charge in 20-30 minutes using a DC Fast charging station. For those plugging in at home, a Level 2 charger is best and will power up this ride overnight.

The Trail Boss trim will be the third one offered in the Chevy Silverado EV lineup. The WT model should arrive in the spring of 2023, with the RST version hitting the streets in the following autumn. This should put the Trail Boss model in our grasp in the spring of 2024, but that timeframe is unconfirmed.
