If you are a purist who loves the visceral roar of a naturally aspirated engine, current dealership forecourts will be looking a little dull. Automakers across the globe are downsizing, slapping turbochargers onto tiny four-cylinders, or abandoning internal combustion entirely. But Chevrolet just sent a massive, 409-cubic-inch message to the rest of the industry. They say, the V8 isn’t dead yet.
Chevrolet has officially revived the legendary Grand Sport nameplate for the 2027 model year, and the star of the show is sat right behind the driver.
409 Cubic Inches of Jackhammer Fury

At the heart of the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport sits a brand-new, next-generation LS6 V8. While competitors are shrinking their engine blocks to meet emissions, GM went the opposite direction. They bored the Small Block out to a massive 6.7 liters (409 cubic inches).
Without a single turbocharger or supercharger in sight, this naturally aspirated masterpiece churns out an incredible 535 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque. To achieve those numbers without forced induction, Chevy’s engineers gave the LS6 a razor-sharp 13.0:1 compression ratio, a massive 95-mm throttle body, and a tunnel-ram intake with high-velocity ports to indulge the engine on fresh air.
“There is no replacement for displacement! Our next generation LS6 engine pushes 409 cubic inches of jackhammer fury through the tailpipes,” said Mike Kociba, assistant chief engineer for the Next Generation V8. “Combining large displacement, modern technology, and proven Small Block V8 heritage will deliver a bold new chapter in performance.”

Built Strictly for the Purist
Chevy is offering an electrified, all-wheel-drive version called the Grand Sport X for those chasing absolute lap times, but the standard 2027 Grand Sport is engineered strictly for the driving purist. It routes all 535 horsepower exclusively to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Better yet, GM knows that sound is half the experience. For the first time in the eighth generation of the Corvette, a pushrod V8 will breathe through an available quad center-exit exhaust.
To keep all that analog power planted, the Grand Sport comes standard with Magnetic Ride Control. For the hardcore track rats, Chevy is offering the Z52 Sport Performance Package, which borrows the high-performance J56 iron brakes from the Z06 and wraps the wheels in sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires. If that isn’t enough, the Z52 Track Performance Package upgrades the stopping power to carbon-ceramic brakes and adds aggressive aero components like a carbon-fiber splitter, dive planes, and a massive rear wing.

The V8 Lives On
Sports cars are becoming reliant on batteries and hybrid propulsion. The 2027 Corvette Grand Sport is a breath of fresh air in this sense. Chevrolet is proving that there is still a massive appetite for visceral, high-displacement, naturally aspirated V8 performance. The turbo trend might be taking over the world, but the Small Block Chevy is going down swinging.
