Winter is coming, and if you live in a colder climate, your 2021 or 2022 Chevy Colorado might not keep your buns warm. To stay in production, the Chevy Colorado and other General Motors models are losing heated seats and heated steering wheels.
The Chevy Colorado is losing heated features
Brr, it’s a cold winter morning, and all you want to do is be warm during your commute. However, the 2022 Chevy Colorado might not have beloved toasty features such as a heated steering wheel or heated seats. Some models may even lose ventilated seats, but that’s more of a summer issue.
General Motors is removing the heated seats from multiple trucks, SUVs, and crossover models to preserve their microchip supply. This way production can remain as a majority of the semiconductor chips go to the most popular vehicles.
Rides that are losing heated seats include the Chevy Colorado, Chevy Equinox, Chevy Blazer, GMC Terrain, GMC Canyon, Chevy Traverse, Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra, and GMC Acadia. However, higher trim levels, such as the Denali, will not lose these features,
The removal of these features will go into effect on November 15. The changes may last through the 2022 model year. Those who have already purchased an affected vehicle may receive credit compensation of between $150 to $500. Also, some models could be retrofitted with heated and ventilated seats once the parts become available.
Is the 2022 Colorado worth buying?
If you don’t need heated or ventilated seats or a heated steering wheel, then the 2022 Chevy Colorado is definitely worth buying. You can get started in a new Colorado for $25,200. This is the MSRP, so dealership markups and destination fees haven’t been added.
The Colorado has three engine options:
- The 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is standard and provides 200 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque.
- You can upgrade to the 3.6-liter V6 engine for 308 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque.
- The 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel engine pumps out 181 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.
With the 3.6-liter engine, the Chevrolet Colorado can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.3 seconds. There’s limited body roll, and the brakes are confident. It has a smoother ride than rivals. Also, wind and road noise can be noticed at higher speeds.
When properly equipped, the Colorado can tow up to 7,700 lbs. It can carry a payload of up to 1,566 lbs. If you want to go off-roading, check out the enhanced ZR2 model or Trail Boss package.
Does the Colorado have good features?
The 2022 Chevy Colorado offers a spacious and comfortable interior. However, the interior materials seem a little cheap and dated. Also, it might be a tight squeeze for two faults to fit in the back seat. There is plenty of cabin space for storing your gear.
A 7.0-inch infotainment system comes standard, but you can upgrade to an 8.0-inch unit. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. The system works quickly and provides attractive menus.
Not many safety features come standard. You can opt for forward-collision warning, lane-departure warning, and rear parking sensors.
