Chevrolet recalling crossovers before parking brakes lock up

General Motors just announced a 40,000-vehicle recall for potential parking brake failures. The new Chevrolet Blazer EV did away with a traditional, cable parking brake for an electric one. Unfortunately, the wiring harness that operates the electric parking brake is wearing out and could wreak havoc. Here are the vehicles affected:
- 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV
- 2025 Chevrolet Blazer EV
According to the General Motors recall, the wiring harness serving the parking brake can become corroded or damaged. Even on these very new vehicles. If it shorts out the parking brake could stop working and the vehicle could roll away. Or possibly more dangerous, the parking brake could activate while you’re driving.
It looks like the problem lies in how the wiring harness is routed, and something that it can rub against. I say that because the recall fix is to examine the parking brake wiring harness, rerouted it, and install anti-abrasive tape. I’m sure GM will fix the problem in future model years of the Chevrolet Blazer EV. But in the meantime, dealerships will inspect and repair existing Blazer EVs for free.
