With a starting price of $26,400, the 2023 Chevy Camaro is the cheapest new sports car. The next most affordable ones are the 2023 Ford Mustang ($27,770 MSRP) and the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata ($28,050 MSRP).

Why is Chevrolet killing the Camaro after 2024?

The Chevy Camaro helped usher in the muscle car era. Debuting in 1966, it was built to compete with the Ford Mustang. While other muscle cars have come and gone, the Camaro has endured for decades. However, now, it’s a casualty of the changing times. Chevrolet announced it will discontinue the Camaro in 2024.

The auto giant is killing the Camaro as the industry shifts toward electric cars. General Motors, Chevrolet’s parent company, is undergoing a major transition to EVs — with plans to go all-electric by 2035. Gas guzzlers with beefy internal combustion engines don’t fit into those plans. 

Some enthusiasts had hoped the Camaro would continue in its current form or see a redesign for a seventh-generation model. However, Chevrolet will no longer build the platform on which the sports car rides. The Camaro doesn’t have a confirmed replacement either. So, the car as we know it will die after the 2024 model year.

Chevrolet could revive the Camaro as an all-electric sub-brand. An electrified performance sedan might be in the works. However, details of that EV are unknown, including its name. Still, Chevrolet teased, “This is not the final chapter for the nameplate.”

2023 Chevy Camaro: Engine options and 0–60 mph acceleration time

The 2023 Chevy Camaro delivers excellent performance with its potent engine options. They include a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder (275 hp), 3.6-liter V6 (335 hp), 6.2-liter V8 (455 hp), and 6.2-liter supercharged V8 (650 hp).

The sports car is fast regardless of the engine. Even the base 2.0-liter turbo-four boasts a 0–60-mph acceleration time of 5.4 seconds. However, the fastest Camaro packs the supercharged V8. It can complete the 0–60 mph sprint in only 3.7 seconds.
