Genesis, the luxury division of Hyundai, hasn’t been around long, for it was founded only seven years ago. However, in its short existence, it has already made waves in the automotive industry with its lineup of high-quality luxury cars and SUVs. While luxury vehicles tend to be expensive, there’s a notable exception for Genesis. It’s the 2023 Genesis G70 compact sports sedan, the cheapest new Genesis model. The G70 is also one of the best small luxury cars, according to Car and Driver.

With a starting price of $39,400 MSRP, the 2023 Genesis G70 is the cheapest new Genesis car. The next most affordable new Genesis models are the 2023 GV70 compact luxury SUV ($43,150 MSRP) and the 2023 G80 luxury midsize sedan ($50,000 MSRP).

Here are the new Genesis cars — in order from cheapest to most expensive:

  1. 2023 Genesis G70: $39,400 MSRP
  2. 2023 Genesis GV70: $43,150 MSRP
  3. 2023 Genesis G80: $50,000 MSRP
  4. 2023 Genesis GV80: $55,800 MSRP
  5. 2023 Genesis GV60: $59,290 MSRP
  6. 2023 Genesis Electrified G80: $79,825 MSRP
  7. 2023 Genesis G90: $88,400 MSRP
  8. 2023 Genesis Electrified GV70: TBD

Some of the Genesis models are expensive, especially the Electrified G80 and the G90. However, the G70 is an affordable option, for it’s the only new Genesis car that has a starting price under $40,000.

In addition to being the cheapest new Genesis model, the 2023 Genesis G70 is a leading choice for the compact luxury sedan segment. Car and Driver ranks it as one of the best small luxury cars. Only the BMW 3 Series and the Audi A5 Sportback rank higher.

In highlighting the G70, Car and Driver was particularly impressed with the stunningly beautiful design. The automotive site jokingly stated that “one of the side effects of observing it in person is hair loss.”

Car and Driver also likes the “sporty handling and performance” of the small luxury car. It offers two potent engine options. The base-level turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine generates 252 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, while the available twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter V-6 delivers 365 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque. When equipped with the twin-turbo V-6, the G70 can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds.

That’s high-level performance for excellent value. Another element that makes the G70 a great value choice is its multitude of premium features. This includes the 15-speaker Lexicon audio system, a head-up display, a surround-view monitor, a wireless charger, heated and cooled seats, a power sunroof, and a dual-zone automatic climate control system.

Furthermore, the G70 has generous warranty coverage. It’s backed by a 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty. Also, the luxury car offers a complimentary maintenance plan — with three years or 36,000 miles of coverage.

What’s new for the 2023 G70?

Following the refreshed design for the previous model year, the 2023 G70 is a carryover model — with only minor changes. This includes newly standard 19-inch wheels for all trims. Also, the 2.0T Sport Prestige package, which used to be called the Prestige, gains alloy pedals, cooled seats, and new exterior and interior trim. Plus, the 3.3T Sport Prestige adds a power trunk. However, the Mallorca Blue and Siberian Ice exterior paint color options from the outgoing model were discontinued.

For drivers that desire a relatively affordable Genesis vehicle, the 2023 Genesis G70 is a good choice. It’s the cheapest new Genesis model — and, according to Car and Driver, one of the best small luxury cars.
