However, there’s one hybrid car in the segment that many shoppers may overlook, and it’s also one of the cheapest and best-performing competitors. Hint: It’s not the Honda Accord Hybrid.

The cheapest and best-performing midsize sedan hybrid is a Toyota

If you’re looking to save money on a midsize hybrid sedan and want to be able to get to 60 mph quickly, the 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid is the one to pick. The Camry Hybrid has a starting price of $30,890, around $3,000 cheaper than the Honda Accord Hybrid. It’s also quicker than its main rival.

According to Money.com, “The Camry’s hybrid version zips from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds.” That’s over one second quicker than the equivalent Accord Hybrid (6.6 seconds) and outstanding for a car in the segment. It’s also quicker than the all-new 2023 Toyota Prius (7.2 seconds).

In addition to the car’s amazing performance and price, the Toyota Camry hybrid is very fuel-efficient. The EPA estimates that the Camry Hybrid can achieve up to 51 mpg in the city and 53 mpg on the highway in its base LE trim level. However, stepping up to the higher XLE and XSE trims knocks those figures down to 44 and 47, respectively.

How much does a fully loaded 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid cost?

If you’re smitten with the 2023 Toyota Camry Hybrid’s performance and fuel economy numbers, you might want to check out the top trim level for the most value. The pinnacle of the Camry Hybrid lineup is the XSE trim, which has a starting price of $33,795. Some of its most notable features over the lower trims include a sport suspension, 19-inch wheels, a 9-inch touchscreen, and ventilated front seats.

Although the Camry Hybrid XSE comes well-equipped, we recommend adding the Navigation package. This option adds a head-up display, front and rear parking sensors, and an onboard navigation system. It’s an extra $3,190, bringing the total to $36,985. Even with the add-on, the loaded Camry Hybrid XSE is still about $1,000 cheaper than the top-trim Honda Accord Hybrid Touring.

If the Toyota Camry doesn’t work for you, there are other options

Of course, as great as the 2023 Toyota Camry hybrid is, it may not be the answer for every shopper. In that case, the Honda Accord Hybrid is still a valid choice. But if you’re looking for a cheaper option, the 2023 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid starts at $28,250 and can get over 50 mpg. However, it won’t be as quick as the Camry Hybrid.
