Like many other automakers, Porsche is also getting into the EV business, and the German luxury automaker has done this in style with the Porsche Taycan. While the Taycan can be driven as a regular car, it’s a sports car at its core, and it’s meant to go fast. This is also true when it comes to charging, and it’s why the Porsche Taycan can be charged at some Tesla Superchargers.

Since the Taycan is a Porsche, it’s not going to be a very cheap sports car to start with. The standard Taycan trim begins at about $83,000, but folks interested in peak performance will have to cough up almost $188,000 for a top-trim Taycan. Obviously, if you cough up that much money for an EV, you will get a lot of power. However, even the baseline Taycan is fairly robust.

The standard Porsche Taycan is equipped with a single electric motor that provides 402 horsepower and 254 lb-ft of torque. It also comes with a 79-kWh battery that’ll allow it to get about 200 miles of range. There are, of course, a lot of options available. For example, a regular Taycan can be equipped with a bigger battery to expand its range to about 225 miles.

Even with its regular electric motor, this Porsche can go quite fast. It takes about 5.1 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph, and it has the same fast-charging capability as higher-end electric models.

Can it be charged at a Tesla Supercharger?

So, can you charge a Porsche Taycan at a Tesla Supercharger? According to CarBuzz, Tesla recently launched a pilot program that’ll allow non-Tesla drivers to charge their EVs at Tesla Superchargers. This pilot program is located at a few Supercharger locations in Europe. Currently, the pilot program has a straightforward process. Non-Tesla EV owners will need to download the Tesla app and create an account. From there, they simply need to follow the instructions.

Not all vehicles may be compatible with Tesla Superchargers, as Tesla Superchargers use a charging cable that’s unique to Tesla models. However, many EVs can use those cables, and the Taycan is one of the EV models that can be charged at a Tesla Supercharger. As for how much this whole service will cost, that’ll depend on quite a few things.

Tesla is currently doing this pilot in Europe, and European electricity prices are different from American electricity prices. Tesla also might offer discounts for anyone who signs up for a charging membership, and the price for that may vary.

How fast can the Porsche Taycan be charged at Tesla Superchargers?

According to InsideEVs, while the Porsche Taycan can be charged at a Tesla Supercharger, it’s not an entirely perfect process. This has to do with the Taycan’s battery’s voltage, which can’t use all the electricity that Tesla Superchargers can deliver. As a result, despite the fact that a Tesla Supercharger V3 can deliver 250 kW, and even though a Taycan can receive 270 kW, in practice, it’ll only receive about 130 kW.

Despite that issue, the Tesla Supercharger can still do its job. It took under 20 minutes to recharge a Taycan at 6% to 50%. The price tag for that roughly 39 kWh charge came in at just $10.22. For comparison, it would take hours for someone to charge their Taycan at home. Additionally, a Taycan, in its best-case scenario, can recharge from 5% to 80% in 22.5 minutes.
