CBP finds meth hidden in the fuel tank of an SUV

CBP officers found 68 lbs of meth hidden in the fuel tank of a 2010 Honda Pilot at the Presidio port of entry. The incident occurred around 2 am Saturday, about 250 miles southeast of El Paso. A woman was trying to cross the border from Mexico into Texas.

According to KTSM, officers noticed that the Honda SUV had a few strange anomalies in its appearance, so they flagged the 47-year-old driver for a secondary exam.

They used a fiber optic scope to take a closer look inside the tank.  Then tons of bundles were spotted hidden inside the fuel tank

Officers removed it and found 63 pounds of methamphetamine. The street value of the methamphetamine is about $3 million.

CBP officers immediately arrested the woman, who is a citizen of Mexico. She was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations special agents to face federal charges for the failed smuggling attempt.

CPN Presidio Port Director, Benito Reyes Jr., shared that CBP officers will employ various tools and techniques to identify and stop drug smugglers.

This layered enforcement approach allows CBP to quickly separate legitimate trade and travel from those attempting to violate the laws of our nation.

Information about the ongoing investigation hasn’t been released. The drugs are probably being held as evidence in a vault.

After the investigation is concluded, the drugs will be destroyed as soon as possible. Contractors incinerate the drugs and the process is monitored by a security team from start to finish.
