Ford’s long-awaited EV truck is finally here, but buying one feels almost impossible. The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning has found some immense popularity as an electric truck that maintains some utility while offering more comfort. But, order banks have already closed for 2022. It is possible to find a Ford Lightning on the second-hand market, but the prices are fairly shocking. They climb well over the MSRP of Ford’s first full-electric pickup truck. 

Can you buy a 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning?

Unfortunately, online orders for Ford’s electric truck are currently closed. So the likelihood of finding one at a dealership is fairly slim. But, some EV buyers have been lucky enough to get behind the wheel of this full-size pickup. 

While surely many are not interested in selling their new electric truck, some are. And those examples are starting to pop up on places like Cars & Bids, which is a popular auction site. When that happens, the results are fairly shocking. Some pre-owned Ford Lightning pickups are selling for over $100,000. $100k is certainly a lot to pay for a truck.

Should you buy a 2022 F-150 Lightning?

If you are interested in a new electric truck, the best move might be to wait. While everyone is aware of supply chain issues and how many industries have been impacted, it won’t last forever. Eventually, things will calm down. And when that happens, you won’t have to pay a significant premium over MSRP in order to experience Ford’s EV truck.

According to Auto Evolution, orders for the 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning should be opening at some point in the near future. This will allow more folks whole are interested in an electric truck to experience what the blue oval has to offer. 

When orders do open, it is entirely possible that they will be spoken for quickly. So, once Ford releases more information, be sure to act fast. 

Is the Ford Lighting a good truck?

In terms of being a truck, the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning does have some compromises. It’s not great at towing long distances, but it can do things like power a job site when properly equipped. Plus, it comes with a number of modern features which help to make it convenient.

Ford has made some notable changes to the suspension to help make this pickup more comfortable than the standard F-150. And, this electric full-size truck has a truly usable front trunk, or frunk, which does add to practicality.

When should you buy an EV truck?

The EV truck market is quickly heating up, but it may be best to wait before you buy. Come 2023, there should be a range of options coming to the market, and that will only increase as electric vehicles become more popular. But, if you really want an EV truck now and don’t mind paying over sticker price, there are Ford F-150 Lightning models available on places like Cars & Bids. 

At the end of the day, the automotive industry is changing. And, eventually, electric trucks will likely become the norm. Even if buying one right now is not an easy task.
