A rapid high-speed pursuit tore through the streets of South Los Angeles on Wednesday evening, leaving a trail of chaos before concluding in a foot chase in a Watts neighborhood.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department started the pursuit after identifying a vehicle connected to a group of carjacking suspects. Rather than pulling over, the driver hit the gas, initiating a reckless, 30-minute race through densely populated areas.
What makes this pursuit particularly alarming is the sheer speed the driver achieved off the highway. With an LAPD patrol cruiser closely tailing them, the suspects reached terrifying speeds pushing nearly 100mph on local surface streets.
The driver showed absolutely zero regard for public safety during the half-hour ordeal. To shake the authorities, the suspect carried out a number of highly dangerous moves, including:
- Blowing through multiple red lights and blind intersections.
- Aggressively swerving around civilian traffic.
- Crossing over the center line and driving head-on into opposing traffic lanes.
A Bailout in Watts
After running out of road, the suspects ditched the vehicle near the intersection of E. 112th Street and Zamora Avenue in Watts.
Initially, three individuals were seen leaping from the abandoned car and sprinting into the residential neighborhood. The situation more dangerous when uninvolved individuals began running out of nearby homes as officers took to chasing on foot.
Despite things getting more and more crazy, law enforcement managed to lock down the area. By 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, the LAPD confirmed that a total of four suspects had been successfully tracked down and arrested.
To add to the chaos, authorities revealed that this evening chase was directly connected to another police pursuit that had taken place earlier that same afternoon. That initial daytime chase resulted in the arrest of two armed robbery suspects, though the LAPD has not yet specified the exact operational link between the two dramatic incidents.
