It’s common for ambulances to carry people involved in a car wreck to the hospital. However, these stories don’t usually include people being struck by an ambulance and then being carried away for help in that exact vehicle. Sadly, this is what happened in Oregon, and the victim is now suing after he was billed for the cost of the ambulance ride.
Being involved in a car wreck with an ambulance and having to pay the cost of the ride is insane
Being involved in a car wreck that includes an ambulance is rare. However, according to Oregon Live, this happened to William Hoesch, 71, while riding his bicycle. The report says this accident occurred in 2022 in Rainier, Oregon. Sadly, the ambulance made a right turn, which is when it crashed into William and, naturally, destroyed his bike in the process. Notably, this happened in front of the ambulance station.
The report says the ambulance was traveling between 2 and 10 miles per hour when the car wreck occurred. There was a driver and one passenger aboard. Of course, they rushed him to the hospital. While most wouldn’t think this would be the case, William received a bill for the cost of the ambulance ride for $1,862.
Of course, the costs related to the car wreck don’t stop there. He already owes $47,000 for medical bills and expects he will owe an additional $50,000. Now, he is suing the ambulance company, Columbia River Fire & Rescue, for $997,000. Part of the lawsuit is over his pain and suffering. Notably, William says his range of motion has decreased. He also has lower grip strength and other medical issues.
