Louisiana woman is left stranded after spending $1,200 on a used car that she can’t register
People in the market for a new or used vehicle have several options. They can sift through car showrooms, they can use private sellers, etc. However, the additional choices don’t make the process any less stressful. Recently, one Louisiana woman reported buying a car and learning that it wasn’t a legal sale, and now she’s left stranded.
It’s not common for people to go find illegal vehicles at car showrooms
According to WBRZ, one woman from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is sounding the alarm about one of the car showrooms in her area. Specifically, it seems that a man named Calvin Scott has been selling illegal cars, and this unnamed woman isn’t his only victim. In this case, the woman paid $1,200 for a 2012 Chrysler 200. The transaction took place in December of 2024, but she has been unable to drive the vehicle since then.
Typically, drivers can go to the DMV to register the vehicle after buying from car showrooms. Sadly, upon attempting this required step, the woman learned they couldn’t issue a registration tag because there was no record of who owned the car. She reached out to Calvin Scott, but he refused to intervene. The woman said, “You can literally come grab the car, resell it, and give me my money back. You’re not taking a loss, so at this point, you’re being dirty. She added, “You shouldn’t be selling cars and not running them and not seeing the car history on it.”
The unnamed woman is now threatening legal action as she paid for a car she can’t drive. She also says she sent the money to Calvin for the vehicle via CashApp, which means there is a paper trail. It’s unclear if the car was stolen or if there are other reasons the DMV can’t register it. She decided to go to the media after seeing another story of a person who Calvin Scott scammed.
