GM is responsible for some of the best cars, trucks, and SUVs to buy. However, no automaker is exempt from car recalls, as issues can arise in even the best vehicles. Now, General Motors has issued a new car recall for some of the best-selling pickup trucks from Chevrolet and GMC because of an issue with their tailgates. As usual, auto mechanics at dealerships will fix the problem for free.

GM has a new car recall on its hands

Like all automakers, General Motors is no stranger to a car recall. According to The Detroit Free Press, the celebrated automotive giant is recalling more than 132,000 GMC and Chevrolet trucks with power-unlatching tailgates. Specifically, the problem is with the electronic gate-release switch short-circuiting due to water intrusion. Sadly, this can cause the impacted tailgates to unlatch when the trucks are in park.

So, which trucks are included in the new GM car recall? It consists of the heavy-duty versions of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado and the 2024 GMC Sierra, which were built between August 1, 2023, and March 8, 2024. The total amount of impacted models is 132,037. While this isn’t the most significant safety issue, it could result in people losing cargo, especially when they don’t know the tailgate has become unlatched before driving.

As with any car recall, auto mechanics at GM dealerships will fix the issue for free. They will replace the exterior touchpad switch assemblies. Owners can expect the automaker to send an official notification letter around January 13. In the meantime, GM suggests owners check their tailgates before driving. Of course, General Motors makes some of the best cars to buy, so this recall is not indicative of widespread problems with the company or its trucks.
