Are you a truck enthusiast with an acute sense of the latest market offerings? Do you love USA-made off-road trucks? If your answer is yes, the Rivian R1T truck might be what you are looking for. The R1T electric truck is neither too big nor small, but it packs enough features to rival some of the most recommended trucks

However, in addition to performance and looks, the Rivian R1T comes with its fair share of unique features, such as the ways its doors unlock and open. Rivian’s unique engineering designs provide you with four staggering ways to open the vehicle. So, let’s look at the Rivian R1T’s secrete features, from its many ways to unlock its doors to its secret storage compartment you have never seen in other offroad trucks.

The gear tunnel of the Rivian R1T

The Rivian R1T’s gear tunnel is a 65-inch cargo area that spans across the truck’s width and is located behind the rear seats and in front of the rear wheels. You can open one of the left or right doors with a simple push of a button on the sides of the tailgate. The inside is fully waterproof, has a release button for emergency exits, and is floored with rubber mats.

On the driver’s side of the tunnel, power outlets can be used to power the Rivian camp kitchen. The camp kitchen is a $5000 mini cooking area with two induction cooking tops, a 4-gallon water tank, and a sink. Rivian partnered with a Japanese outdoor adventure company, Snow Peak, to fit the kitchen with over 30 pieces of cutlery.

The gear tunnel’s passenger side door has a first aid kit, while the driver’s side has an extra storage area to slip in trim tools. Because these miniature doors slam downwards to form a flat base, you can use them as improvised stools. According to CleanTechnica, the door can support up to 250 pounds.

Four ways to open the Rivian R1T electric truck

First, as shown in Doug DeMuro’s YouTube overview of the electric truck, new owners of this award-winning fully electric truck can use the standard fob key to open the vehicle and start the engine. Just walk closer to the car and press the button on the key; you will hear the comforting chirp of the unlocking mechanism.

Second, if you love wearing accessories, you can get one of Rivian’s wearable, waterproof bracelets that can open the doors of the Rivian R1T with a simple touch. Simply brush the bracelet on the door lightly.

Third, you can use a smartphone equipped with the Rivian app. This is the simplest method once you have the app downloaded, and you don’t need to be near the car to unlock it. The phone will automatically open the vehicle within the network range. Similarly, the doors shut off as you move out of the network range.

Fourth, and lastly, you can use a credit card to open the Rivian R1T. Did you hear me wrong? Credit cards can actually open a car, but we are not talking about Express and Chase cards. Rivian has a credit card-sized “key” that can be tapped on the driver’s side door to open it.

Other noteworthy specs, features, and tech of this EV truck

The Rivian R1T performs spectacularly, being an off-road vehicle. It can reach 60 mph in less than 4 seconds thanks to an all-wheel drive system with four electric motors totaling over 800 horsepower, each connected to a wheel. All motors derive power from batteries with 105, 135, or 180 kWh ratings. You can travel for between 250 and 400 miles depending on the battery capacity.

The interior is stuffed with sleek features and high-tech components, and there is even more storage space. There are storage compartments under each front seat, cup holders, and ample space below the center screen. The armrest on the center console is a lid for another storage area which a push-button can access on the front part.

The Rivian R1T truck’s nervous system is the touch screen in front of the steering wheel. It controls everything from opening the doors to adjusting the climate and side mirrors. You will also find the gear guard “Yeti,” which, when you lock the car, arms all the cameras, and you can silently monitor the surroundings. Supportive leather seats, phone charging pads, and a removable Bluetooth speaker sum up the features of a luxury interior.
