Here’s why calling the Honda Ridgeline underrated is laughable
My title may seem aggressive or like it’s against the Honda Ridgeline. But It’s not, I’m writing in response to critics who claim that the Ridgeline is one of the most underrated trucks. However, it often tops the charts as the best mid-size truck to buy.
No, the Honda Ridgeline isn’t underrated
According to CarBuzz, the Honda Ridgeline is the most underrated truck available today. But I disagree upon reviewing its scores.
A majority of outlets like Edmunds, Car and Driver, Kelley Blue Book, and more provide the Ridgeline with an excellent score. It often gets scores of 9.0 out of 10 or 4.3 out of 5.0.
It’s rated extremely highly for being comfortable, having tons of passenger and storage space, being versatile with a built-in lockable trunk in the bed, having modern, easy-to-use tech, and being athletic.
Have you ever spoken with an actual Ridgeline owner? They only have good things to say about the unibody truck.
But CarBuzz points to its lack of sales. That’s why it’s underrated by its team. But I don’t think the lack of sales is due to its ratings.

The Ford Maverick and Toyota Tacoma are examples of trucks that are outselling it. You could say that the Tacoma does better because it can tow more than the Ridgeline. But the Ridgeline can tow up to 5,000 lbs, which is more than the Maverick can.
Also, the Honda truck is currently outselling the Hyundai Santa Cruz and Ford Ranger. It’s by no means in last place.
The real reason why the Honda Ridgeline is facing weaker sales is due to its price. It starts at $39,750. Meanwhile, the 2024 Tacoma starts at $31,500 and the 2024 Maverick starts at $23,920.
Along with being the most expensive mid-size truck, the Ridgeline is a bit old compared to its rivals. It was last redesigned in 2021, while the Chevy Colorado was redesigned in 2022, the Tacoma was redesigned for 2024, and the Ford Ranger was redesigned for 2024.
The Ridgeline is great, but it’s expensive and could use modern upgrades.
