California Man Arrested After Intentionally Ramming Wife’s Car in 5-Vehicle Pileup

Just before 6:00 a.m. today, the intersection of Cypress and Hollenbeck in Covina, California, looked like an absolute warzone. Debris littered the street, vehicles were mangled, and one car was completely flipped on its side. However, this wasn’t your typical morning commute accident. Instead, it was the devastating climax of a domestic dispute that put dozens of innocent drivers in serious danger.

According to local investigators at ABC7, the chaotic five-car pileup was intentionally caused by a husband who was actively chasing down his wife. Eyewitnesses and authorities report that the suspect was pursuing his wife’s vehicle through the city streets at a high rate of speed.

In a terrifying display of vehicular violence, the man allegedly used his car as a weapon, intentionally ramming into his wife’s vehicle. The brutal, high-speed impact caused her car, which was also carrying the couple’s teenage daughter, to violently flip onto its side in the middle of the roadway.

Innocent Bystanders Were Also Hurt

Unfortunately, the destruction didn’t stop with the flipped vehicle. Because the targeted crash happened at a busy intersection, several innocent commuters were instantly caught in the crossfire. The initial collision triggered a massive chain reaction that ultimately mangled five or six different cars.

Emergency responders rushed to the chaotic scene. According to the Covina Police Department, four people were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Miraculously, despite the severity of the wreckage and the violent nature of the attack, authorities confirmed that all injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

A California Manhunt Followed

Instead of checking on his trapped wife, his teenage daughter, or the multiple bleeding bystanders, the husband immediately fled the scene on foot. He sprinted away from the intersection and into the surrounding residential neighborhood, prompting a massive police manhunt.

Covina police officers quickly established a perimeter, but it was the watchful eyes of local residents that ultimately brought the suspect to his knees. Neighbors spotted the man wandering through their backyards and immediately tipped off law enforcement. Roughly two hours after the initial crash, police discovered the suspect hiding behind a wooden residential gate and took him into custody.

The unnamed suspect is currently behind bars, and the Covina Police Department is officially investigating the catastrophic crash as a domestic violence incident.
