Ella Grier, a Greensboro, North Carolina resident, inherited her sister’s beloved Cadillac when she passed away. Grier honors her sister by keeping the Caddy in showroom condition. To keep it safe, she installed security cameras pointed toward her parking spot.

Four months ago, her cameras caught a pizza delivery driver in a white Hyundai pulling into a spot next to her Cadillac. The driver flung their door open and went right into Grier’s driver’s side door, denting it. Grier said she expected the driver to take responsibility and was shocked when they drove away without a word.

“I was expecting him to come and knock on my door and say, ‘Hey, I hit your car, I’m sorry,'”
Grier told WFMY 2.

Grier called the owner of the pizzeria and told them what happened. The owner instructed her to have someone assess the damage, get an estimate, and they’d pay for it.

The estimate for the damage to her door ended up being $500. After she told the pizza shop owner, radio silence.

“He didn’t want to believe that that’s what it was,” she said. “He didn’t want to pay.”

The media secured the bag

Grier turned to her local news station to corner the pizza shop owner into paying for the damage to her Cadillac. Once word got out that they were trying to go back on their word, Grier was paid.

With the money in the bank, she quickly took the car to be repaired.

“I should have called you guys in the beginning,” she said. “Everything is wonderful. I feel fantastic.”

Viewers think she was a tad dramatic

Those who watched the outlet’s video uploaded to its YouTube channel felt she may have exaggerated the damage done. Especially after watching the security footage.

“I would have to see the actual ‘damage,’ but that tap looked like it should’ve been able to be buffed out,” wrote a viewer.

Someone else said the car may have sentimental value to Grier, but it wasn’t worth pursuing the driver.

“Some people value things that are not really important,” they wrote.
