We’re still experiencing a chip shortage, and it’s far from over. The newest automaker to have production heavily affected by it is Cadillac. Recently, a report from Motor1 suggests that Cadillac hasn’t found a way around the issue as many others have. In fact, some Cadillac models just lost a crucial feature thanks to the shortage.

Which Cadillac models lost what crucial feature?

Cadillac models lost a crucial feature for the 2022 model year. Cadillac crossovers of 2022 will no longer have park assist due to the semiconductor shortage. Models affected include Cadillac XT4, XT5, and XT6 assembled after December 20, 2021. Additionally, not every trim level for each model is affected. Some XT4s in the Luxury trim will no longer come with rear park assist, but the XT4 Premium Luxury and Sport trims, XT5 Luxury, Premium Luxury, Sport, and XT6 Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport models will all be without front, and rear park assist features.

Motor1 reached out to the automaker to confirm the truth of this news, which Cadillac Society first reported. Assuming the information is accurate, park assist is an essential feature for many drivers. Not only is it convenient for reversing into a parking area, but it’s also a safety concern. Whether for someone driving by or a nearby parked car, park assist is beneficial in keeping drivers safe.

Less Cadillac features, less Cadillac cost?

Some Cadillac models lost a crucial feature, but does the price show it? People use an old idiom, which refers to the best of the best of something. If a particular product is the best available, or just the most expensive, it’s “the Cadillac of” that thing. While the automaker’s models haven’t been considered the best for a while, they’re still costly. If these crossover models lose park assist features, do they also become cheaper?

The short answer is no. There’s virtually nothing that could cause an automaker to lower the price of a vehicle in the middle of a model year. It could’ve seen a price drop if the new model was unreleased and originally came out without the feature. However, these Cadillac crossover models have been available for some time now, so price drops are next to impossible.

Another victim of the global chip shortage

Cadillac isn’t the first victim of the global chip shortage, and it certainly won’t be the last. Many automakers have had to drop features or entire vehicles from production. If you weren’t already aware, this is the primary reason why cars are so expensive right now. Sellers can’t get inventory due to low production, and consumers need cars. That’s a recipe for disaster if you’re a buyer because sellers know they can price vehicles any way they want.

There’s never been a worse time to buy a vehicle. If the extra cost didn’t persuade you out of buying, maybe the lack of features will. GM has said that other features would be dropped from the lineup. Cadillac is just one more victim in the way of the chip shortage, which shows no sign of slowing down.

In conclusion, crossover models produced after December 20, 2021, will not have park assist features. If you’re in the market for a new Cadillac, you might consider purchasing a sedan, Escalade, or an older crossover model that’s been on the lot for a few months. That way, you avoid the Cadillac models that lost a crucial feature.
