Auto mechanics often ask car owners if they’d like a cabin air filter replacement during oil changes. Typically, they’ll even remove the filter and show it to the driver. However, many don’t know what this device does. Essentially, it cleans the air that comes into the car. This is essential for removing dust and pollen from the air inside the vehicle. Typically, it’s located behind the glove compartment box.

Recently, a mechanic on TikTik named Gills Point S posted a video explaining when you need a new cabin air filter. He starts by explaining that a car usually has two types of filters. One is for the engine, and the other is for the cabin. He says you should have the air filter checked each time you get an oil change. Like other auto mechanics, this one says you’ll know you need a new one when there’s so much debris you can’t see through it. He also says changing it every season is great advice.
He shows how to remove the cabin air filter from behind the glove compartment and says changing it with each new season is a great idea. He then says having a cabin air filter that’s too dirty can cause issues with the AC and the car defrosting efficiently. In the end, he said this should be checked more often than the engine air filter. Of course, both are necessary parts of car maintenance.
