A new bill will make it harder for tow truck drivers to sell your car
Tow truck drivers swarmed the capital on Monday to protest. There is new a bill that will allow towing companies to sell your car. The bill is being seen as a way to regulate predatory by some companies and drivers.
But quite a bit of red tape is attached. For example, the bill would allow tow truck companies to sell a car after 15 days if it’s valued under $1,500. According to WTNH, the bill proposes a wait time of 30 days.
Frank Heusser, owner of Franks LLC in Astonia claims it would make his job harder. The timeline for paperwork to come back takes about a month and a half and shops can’t have cars sitting around for 45 days.
Currently, the proceeds from selling a car are supposed to go towards towing and storage fees. You can’t tow more vehicles if you don’t have room to store them. Some drivers claim that they’re targeted by tow truck drivers.
The bill will also require companies to post a consumer bill of rights at its business, online, and have copies to distribute.Plus, tow truck businesses must have reasonable hours on weekends and holidays for owners to reclaim their cars.
Last but not least, tow truck drivers must leave a written notice on a car 24 hours before towing it from a private lot.
