Toyota and Honda are two popular Japanese automakers well-known for making some of the most reliable cars on the market. Due to how reliable their vehicles are, Toyota and Honda are also popular used car options, as drivers can be sure that their vehicles will last them for a long time. With that being said, the best used SUVs that cost less than $10,000 aren’t Toyota or Honda models.

Here’s how Toyota and Honda SUVs ranked

iSeeCars recently ranked the best used SUVs that cost less than $10,000, and Toyota and Honda didn’t do too badly. Honda had two entries make the top 10, while Toyota had one.

The 2010 Honda CR-V came in at No. 7. Used car shoppers can expect to pay about $8,800 for this model year of the CR-V, and it’s a solid enough car overall. Like the modern CR-V, the 2010 model year is a safe and reliable option that provides drivers with a good balance of features and specs. The seats are spacious, and it has a good amount of cargo room, though its tech features will be minimal. It also gets 21 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on highways, for 25 mpg combined, which is good for a compact SUV.

The 2010 Honda Pilot came in at No. 5, and shoppers should expect to pay about $9,400 for one. Just like the CR-V, the Pilot is solid all-around. It is a three-row SUV, so it may be a good option for larger families.

Finally, the 2010 Toyota Highlander finished at No. 3. It costs just under $10,000 on average and has three rows of seats. As expected, the Highlander also has decent specs all-around.

The 2010 Acura MDX is a great SUV for under $10,000

While those Toyota and Honda SUVs are great used options, the best used SUV on the list is the 2010 Acura MDX. Since Acura is a luxury brand, the MDX was the only luxury SUV on iSeeCars’ list. Used car shoppers can expect to pay about $9,900 for one, which is actually less than the 2010 Highlander’s average used car price. Like every other great used car option, the MDX is well-balanced.

It has a 300-hp engine and all-wheel drive as standard, giving the SUV a fuel economy of 16 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on highways, for 19 mpg combined. That’s not a great fuel economy rating, but it also comes with three rows of seats and a luxurious interior. Leather upholstery is standard, as is a tri-zone automatic climate control system. The MDX is also safe and reliable, with few issues to speak of.

There are many other used SUV options under $10,000

Many of the best used SUVs that cost less than $10,000 are from around the 2010 model year. For example, the 2010 Ford Expedition, as did the 2009 Dodge Durango, made the list. The Expedition ended up at No. 2, and its average used car price is about $9,000. The site praised the Expedition since Ford gave it a lot of features, including an optional infotainment system and a powerful V8 engine.

Meanwhile, the Durango came in at No. 4. It’s the cheapest option on the list, with an average used car price of just $6,900. Overall, the Durango is a solid option for large families that expect to haul a lot of cargo. But overall, you’re going to get the best value from the 2010 Acura MDX, the best used SUV for under $10,000.
