Many consumers are flocking to SUVs for their daily drivers. They make fantastic vehicles for road trips, are ideal for families, and many are now better on gas mileage. You may assume that the Toyota Highlander or the Chevrolet Suburban took first place in the latest study by iSeeCars, but it was another SUV that slid into that coveted position.

The Toyota Highlander Hybrid and Chevrolet Suburban aren’t No. 1 on this best used SUV under $20,000 list

It’s true, Toyota isn’t No. 1. While this is unusual for the Japanese automaker, the Highlander Hybrid did take third place on the iSeeCars list of best used SUVs under $20,000.

The 2013 Toyota Highlander Hybrid received an NHTSA safety rating of 5.0 out of 5 and has an average used car price of $18,896. The percentage of used vehicles under 200,000 miles is 4.2%. If you are interested in the non-hybrid Highlander, it took 10th place on this list.

The 2013 Chevrolet Suburban took second place on the list. It has an NHTSA score of 4.0 out of 5 and has a used car price of $17,996. The percentage of vehicles under 200,000 miles is 4.9%.

Many drivers love the 2013 Chevrolet Suburban thanks to its size. It can seat up to eight passengers, making it perfect for growing families. Better yet, it can tow up to 10,000 miles, making it ideal for anyone who wants to haul semi-heavy loads.

iSeeCars awarded the 2013 Ford Expedition with first place. The American-made SUV has an NHTSA score of 5.0 out of 5, and 5.2% of the current models have less than 200,000 miles. The average price for a used model is around $16,685.

According to iSeeCars, “The longest-lasting used SUV for under $20,000 is the 2013 Ford Expedition large SUV, which offers three full rows of seating. It comes with a powerful V8 engine and provides a smooth ride, which makes it a capable family hauler for those who need a lot of cargo and passenger room. Family-friendly features include rear seats that fold easily into the floor to expand cargo space, and a spacious third row that is comfortable for passengers of all sizes.”

The 2013 Ford Expedition remains popular with consumers and critics thanks to its ability to tow up to 9,200 lbs. It also has a max payload of 1,690 lbs.

The folding seats make loading up with groceries, luggage, or tools easier than ever, which makes it an attractive choice for those who need to haul heavy loads. The 2013 Expedition can also hold up to eight passengers without anyone fighting for elbow room in the back.

Where do the GMC Yukon XL and Chevrolet Tahoe fit in?

The 2013 GMC Yukon XL came in fourth place. It has an NHTSA score of 4.0 out of 5, and 4.1% have less than 200,000 miles. The average price for a used model is $18,451.

The 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe was awarded fifth place. It has an NHTSA score of 4.0 out of 5 and has an average used car price of $19,072. There are 4.1% of vehicles that have less than 200,000 miles.

If you are interested in buying a used SUV, then these five models are fantastic choices that you can purchase for less than $20,000. However, you need to be‌ aware that there is more to buying a used vehicle than the price tag. The mileage is very important, so try to find one that ideally has less than 200,000 miles before buying.
