Finding a good deal on a new car, truck, or sport utility vehicle is nothing short of frustrating right now. However, Consumer Reports has some options for the best SUVs of 2022 that nobody bought. Who knows, perhaps that means buyers can snag a good deal just to move the inventory off the lot.

The Lexus UX is one of the best SUVs of 2022 that nobody bought

One the recent list of hidden gems from Consumer Reports, the 2022 Lexus UX was one option. This luxury SUV is a green choice and performed well on the road test. The predicted reliability and owner satisfaction scores were average, but Consumer Reports still recommends it.

This is Lexus’s entry-level SUV option for buyers, but only 17,581 units sold in 2021. Lexus also offers the UX with a hybrid powertrain option that got 37 mpg overall in testing. While it isn’t as luxurious as some of the more expensive options, it has plenty of active safety features. Forward collision warning (FCW), automatic emergency braking (AEB), blind-spot warning (BSW), and rear cross-traffic warning (RCTW) are all standard.

The Mini Cooper Countryman is another option for the best SUVs of 2022 that nobody bought

Even though the 2022 Mini Cooper Countryman is a fun and sport SUV, it seems to get overlooked. Consumer Reports calls it a luxury entry-level sport utility vehicle, but it performed well in all tested areas. The road test and predicted reliability scores were impressive, but Mini only sold 10,440 Countryman SUVs in 2021.

This Mini Cooper Countryman is fun to drive and luxurious enough, but the high price might send people to the more luxurious competition. When the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tested the 2022 Countryman, it received high scores in most areas. FCW is standard, but Mini didn’t include many other driver assistance features. CR still says it is one of the best SUVs of 2022 that no one bought.

What are some sedans that buyers overlooked?

The 2022 Audi A4 sedan scored high on the Consumer Reports road test. The predicted reliability score was pretty high, but the owner satisfaction was just average. Audi sold about 50,000 units in the A4’s heyday in the mid-2000s. Last year, it only sold 16,263 units.

The 2022 Toyota Avalon won’t be coming back next year. However, it was the top large car in all of Consumer Reports rankings. The Avalon scores high in every category, from the road test to the owner satisfaction score. It comes with Toyota’s legendary reliability and an insane 42 mpg combined from the hybrid option.

If you find one of these vehicles for sale, perhaps its low sales numbers will help you get a better deal. As the 2023 vehicles start rolling in, dealerships will want these options out of the way.
