J.D. Power likes to thoroughly test and analyze new cars to come up with what the site feels is the best of a certain category. When it comes to SUVs, they’ve come up with what the publication thinks outperforms the rest with the 2022 models. The three brands J.D. analysts prefer for SUV production are Jeep, Ford, and Chevrolet. What sport utility models do these manufacturers offer?

Jeep

There’s a rich history behind the Jeep name, starting with the Willys-Overland Jeeps built for military use. From there, a whole line of off-road-ready vehicles was born.

Today, the Jeep brand has several offerings ranging from subcompact SUVs to full-size ones, and even a truck. The brand’s lineup includes midsize options like the Grand Cherokee, Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, Wrangler, and the Wrangler 4xe.

The two subcompact SUV models are the Compass and the Renegade. With the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler, you can get both a two-row and a three-row seating configuration. Jeep’s Grand Cherokee L and the Wrangler L both have a third row of seats, while the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler have just two.

The Grand Cherokee 4xe and the Wrangler 4xe are the brand’s first adventure into plug-in hybrid SUVs with a 4×4 drivetrain. The Grand Cherokee 4xe offers a driving range of 25 miles, while the Wrangler’s 4xe model goes 21 miles in the all-electric driving mode.

Ford

According to J.D. Power, Ford is the second-best SUV producer behind Jeep. The brand’s smallest offerings include its crossover the Bronco Sport, and the Escape, which is one of its compact SUVS.

Added to the small sport utility vehicle category is the Mustang Mach-e, Ford’s popular model in electric SUV form. A rise in popularity for the controversial model caused the model to tap out of its inventory in 2022, but you should be able to get your hands on one in 2023.

As for midsize SUVs, Ford has the popular Bronco model, the Edge, and the Explorer to choose from. Each one has its own level of popularity, especially the Explorer since it outsold the Jeep Wrangler and its sister model the Bronco in 2022.

To round out the SUV lineup, Ford offers the Expedition as a full-size model, with the Expedition Max being the largest vehicle the brand offers.

Chevrolet

Chevy is no stranger to sport utility vehicles since it’s been offering them for quite some time. The brand produces a full range of subcompact to full-size SUVs for one of the biggest varieties available. For those needing a small SUV for their daily driving ventures, you can get the Equinox, Trailblazer, and the Bolt EUV.

If it’s a midsize you want, you won’t be disappointed with the brand’s Blazer model, which costs slightly more than the Traverse, its other midsize SUV. You’ll get a more refined interior, larger cargo space, and more standard features, though.

As far as performance, you’ll get pretty similar features. If you have a big family and want more seating or interior space, you can go for one of the brand’s full-size models. In this case, you have the choice of the Tahoe or the more popular Suburban SUV.

When it comes to sport utility vehicles, several automotive manufacturers are producing them. Some of them offer good performance, others towing capabilities. But, if you want the best SUV available, listen to what J.D. Power advises, and go for one built by Jeep, Ford, or Chevrolet.
