The Best-Selling Toyota Is Also the Brand’s Most Reliable SUV With Top Scores for Dependability
The Toyota RAV4 is more than the brand’s best-selling SUV. Last year, the RAV4 defied expectations and outsold the seemingly unbeatable Ford F-150 to become the best-selling vehicle of 2024. Now, the RAV4 has another claim to fame: it has the highest reliability score of Toyota’s complete US-market lineup.
The best-selling Toyota RAV4 is also the most reliable SUV in the brand’s lineup
Toyota has a reputation for reliability that puts it among the top automakers in terms of dependability. But, like “The Highlander” (the movie, not the Toyota model), there can be only one most reliable option in the brand’s lineup.
According to Consumer Reports, the most dependable ride in the automaker’s offerings is none other than its best-seller, the RAV4. The evaluators at Consumer Reports gave the RAV4 a commendable predicted reliability score of 86 out of 100.
That score does more than rank it among some of the most reliable vehicles on the market; it puts the compact SUV at the top of Toyota’s offerings. The RAV4’s predicted reliability scores are higher than those of its top-selling siblings, like the Camry and Corolla.
The top marks complement the RAV4’s sales performance from last year. Specifically, the Japanese automaker sold 475,193 RAV4s last year. The substantial sales were enough to out-sell its second-best, the Camry, by a staggering 165,317 units.
Not everyone rates the RAV4 so highly
However, even with top marks from Consumer Reports, the RAV4 doesn’t reside at the top of every reviewer’s reliability ratings. RepairPal, for instance, gave the RAV4 a reliability score of 4.0 out of 5.0 based on factors like “cost, frequency, and severity of actual repairs.”
Still, even with a less-than-perfect score, the RAV4’s 4.0 out of 5.0 puts it at No. 3 out of 26 nameplates in the compact SUV segment. It doesn’t, however, beat the 4.5 out of 5.0 score belonging to the RAV4’s primary rival, the Honda CR-V.
