When Consumer Reports rated the best midsize SUVs under $35,000, the 2022 Mazda CX-9 checks all of the boxes. The CX-9 has essential safety features like forward collision warning (FCW), automatic emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, highway speed AEB, and blind-spot warning (BSW). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2022 Mazda CX-9 the Top Safety Pick Plus award.
Mazda equipped the CX-9 with room for seven passengers and still managed to get 22 mpg overall. Some of the higher trim levels will exceed the $35,000 budget, but buyers still get all the promised safety features on the lower trims.

For 2022, the IIHS awarded the 2022 Telluride with the Top Safety Pick award.

Consumer Reports gave it good scores on the road test and areas of predicted reliability. Owners report being satisfied with the Palisade SUV, too. FCW, AEB with pedestrian detection, highway speed AEB, and BSW are all included. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2022 Palisade almost all five star ratings on its crashworthiness tests. The IIHS also gave this Hyundai SUV high marks.
