When Consumer Reports rated the best midsize SUVs under $35,000, the 2022 Mazda CX-9 checks all of the boxes. The CX-9 has essential safety features like forward collision warning (FCW), automatic emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, highway speed AEB, and blind-spot warning (BSW). The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the 2022 Mazda CX-9 the Top Safety Pick Plus award.

Mazda equipped the CX-9 with room for seven passengers and still managed to get 22 mpg overall. Some of the higher trim levels will exceed the $35,000 budget, but buyers still get all the promised safety features on the lower trims.

The Kia Telluride is also one of the best midsize SUVs with tons of safety features

The 2022 Kia Telluride is included on a lot of lists these days. That’s because it has all the safety features buyers want, high road test scores, and high-reliability scores. Owner satisfaction is also high with this Kia SUV, thanks to all of the thoughtful design elements and technology. FCW, AEB with pedestrian detection, highway speed AEB, and BSW are all included. For 2022, the IIHS awarded the 2022 Telluride with the Top Safety Pick award.

Don’t overlook the Hyundai Palisade sport utility vehicle

Even though the 2022 Hyundai Palisade is quite similar to the Telluride, it still stands on its own as a good option. Consumer Reports gave it good scores on the road test and areas of predicted reliability. Owners report being satisfied with the Palisade SUV, too. FCW, AEB with pedestrian detection, highway speed AEB, and BSW are all included. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gave the 2022 Palisade almost all five star ratings on its crashworthiness tests. The IIHS also gave this Hyundai SUV high marks.

Hyundai equipped the Palisafe with a 3.8L V6 that gets 291 hp and 21 mpg overall. Thanks to its third row, this SUV can fit seven or eight people (depending on the configuration). This is one of the best midsize SUVs under $35,000 with all of the safety features one might want.

Some automakers like to hide extra safety features in the higher-level trims, but not these options. Mazda, Kia, and Hyundai want all of the options for buyers to be safe. That’s why these are the best midsize SUVs under $35,000.
