Buying a full-size truck is excellent for many reasons. However, some buyers need something more capable of driving in the snow or off-roading in general. One expert put together a list of the best types of each vehicle for driving in snow. The answer is surprising to most buyers in the full-size truck segment because it’s not the most popular Ford F-150, a Chevy Silverado, or even a Ram 1500. The Toyota Tundra is the best full-size truck for driving in snow.

iSeeCars says the best vehicles for driving in snow are ones that overcome the challenges of freezing weather. Icy roads, reduced visibility, and low tire pressure are just a few obstacles snow drivers face. The publication also says the best models for driving in snow have all the same attributes. For example, all- or four-wheel drive, anti-lock brakes, driver assist technology, ground clearance, heated mirrors, remote start, traction/stability control, and winter/snow tires are just a few of the best features a midsize truck, SUV, or car can have.

The one to best fit the bill in the full-size truck segment is the Toyota Tundra. Overall, iSC gave the Tundra an 8.4 out of 10 for quality, an 8.2 for reliability, an 8.3 for value retention, and an 8.0 safety score. Toyota’s full-size offering is safe, luxurious, reliable, and comparable to most other pickups in its class. But why does it perform so well in the snow? It comes with a standard 3.5-liter V6 engine good for 389 horsepower, hydraulic cab mounts for a smoother ride, and available four-wheel drive. With 4WD available for all trims, it beats some trucks that only offer it with more expensive options.

Additionally, the standard safety features included with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 makes everyone onboard safer. Features include a pre-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and a lane-keeping system.

With some of the higher trims, buying a Toyota Tundra for off-roading is easy. First, the TRD Pro model adds a lot to the full-size truck’s off-road capability. For example, 18-inch TRD wheels with all-terrain tires, a 1.1-inch suspension lift, skid plates, Fox suspension dampers, a rear locking differential, and crawl control. Optionally, buyers can choose to get load-leveling rear air suspension and adaptive suspension dampers.

Finally, the TRD Off-Road package adds even more to the long list of rugged features. Without buying the TRD Pro model, the SR5, Limited, and 1974 Edition trims can get 18-inch TRD wheels, an off-road suspension, mudguards, skid plates, a locking rear differential, multi-terrain driving modes, and crawl control.

Buyers can easily dominate the white powder with the Tundra TRD Pro trim or the many optional features available to more affordable models.
