KBB released its list of the best full-size pickup trucks of 2021 and 2022, and they all have one thing in common. In short, the list comprises 12 total trucks, each of which comes from one of two automakers. Shockingly, all 12 listings are either Ford or Ram models. Not a single Toyota, Nissan, or Chevy model made KBB’s best full-size pickup trucks list.

How does KBB decide on the best full-size pickup trucks?

KBB employees drive every vehicle they can get their hands on. They then consider the interior, exterior, engine, powertrain, ride, and handling. Additionally, the reviewers look at whether or not the smoothness of the ride and the included features match the price tag. Is this driving experience worth what the automaker asks for it?

Next, KBB determines whether or not the vehicle serves the purpose for which it’s built. For instance, you wouldn’t judge a work truck based on technology and features, and you wouldn’t judge a small crossover on its towing capability. Instead, KBB determines if a crossover is suitable for commuting and fitting passengers inside and if a work truck is good for, well, working.

That’s what happened with the list of best full-size pickup trucks. Depending on the truck’s purpose, is there value in buying it? For example, a work truck with lots of capability and low cost is meeting or exceeding its value.

Ford sweeps the top 5

The top 5 on KBB’s list of best full-size trucks are all Ford models. Surprisingly, the first three are Ford F-150 variants, and the next two are the F-250 and F-350. The 2021 Ford F-150 regular cab is topping the list, which is nothing too exciting. However, this model doesn’t need to be exciting to be named the best full-size pickup truck available.

Not only does the F-150 Regular Cab win the best full-size truck, but it also received two other awards from KBB. In addition to best full size, it won the 2021 Best Buy Award and 2021 5-Year Cost to Own Award. The award titles are self-explanatory and push the importance of overall value over everything. This truck has the best towing, payload, and power in its class. Additionally, it has a comfortable interior, a hybrid option, innovative features, and the Tremor and Raptor off-road and performance models.

Ram takes the rest

The 2022 Ram 1500 TRX Ignite Edition is one of the best full-size pickup trucks, according to KBB.

Ram full-size pickup trucks make up the rest of the list. While plenty of other automakers sells full-size pickup trucks, none compare to these Ford or Ram models, according to KBB. Included on the list are two different Ram 1500 variants. Subsequently, there are several Ram 2500 models, and a couple of Ram 3500s round out the list.

It’s clear that KBB uses a specific set of criteria since Ram’s cheapest model is ranked first, just like Ford’s offerings. KBB’s best full-size pickup trucks are the most affordable but provide a lot of value. That is to say, with brands like these, even the more affordable models are capable, luxurious, and comfortable to drive. Which Ram pickup truck models made KBB’s list?

  1. 2022 Ram 1500 Quad Cab
  2. 2021 Ram 2500 Regular Cab
  3. 2021 Ram 1500 Crew Cab
  4. 2021 Ram 2500 Crew Cab
  5. 2022 Ram 3500 Crew Cab
  6. 2021 Ram 2500 Mega Cab
  7. 2021 Ram 3500 Mega Cab

The highest Ram option on the list received many excellent upgrades for 2022. Some of these include new trims like the TRX Ignition Edition and five others. KBB emphasizes that one of its best features is the 702-horsepower TRX model. This isn’t the first reviewer to love the performance truck, as it’s been called the fastest pickup truck of all time.

KBB’s best full-size pickup trucks of 2021 & 2022

In conclusion, the best full-size pickup trucks list from KBB comprises 12 total options. Ford and Ram’s models completely cover the list from top to bottom. KBB doesn’t think Toyota, Chevy, Nissan, or other models can hold a candle to these two titans. Furthermore, it’s widely known that they’re two of the best in the industry, but it’s rare to see them ultimately sweep a 12 truck list like this.
