If you are after an electric SUV, there are a variety of options out there. But according to MotorTrend, one EV has the rest beat. And that vehicle is the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5. The Ioniq 5 is an electric SUV that brings quite a bit to the table. Not only is it MotorTrend’s EV of the year, it is also the best SUV of the year. And that is pretty cool to see.

The 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a great SUV

As an EV, the 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 5 truly excels. It has a futuristic design, ample range, and honestly feels like a premium vehicle. In fact, the Ioniq 5 is also MotorBiscuit’s EV of the year, so MotorTrend is not the only one who has taken note.

According to MotorTrend, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 might have the chops to dethrone Tesla as a mainstream EV manufacturer. And that shows just how far EVs have come in recent years. The Ioniq 5 is the first of Hyundai’s commitment to offering more electric vehicles. And frankly, I think it’s a great start to that goal.

What is the range of the Ioniq 5?

The range of the 2023 Ioniq 5 is 303 miles. That number should be ample enough for daily use. Of course, not every Ioniq 5 will have that long of a range. With the smaller battery pack, you should expect about 220 miles of electric range.

The range of the Ioniq 5 might not be as good as some rivals. But for the price, it seems to be a good deal. RWD models will have the most range, but you can get this Hyundai SUV with AWD should you choose.

How safe is Hyundai’s electric SUV?

In terms of safety, the Ioniq 5 does pretty well. It comes standard with a variety of active safety features. These features include things like:

  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Lane-keep assist
  • Automatic high beams

You can opt for other safety features as well. This includes a 360-degree camera and a better adaptive cruise system.

The NHTSA has not yet tested this electric SUV. But, the IIHS has declared it a 2022 Top Safety Pick+, so if you’re looking for a safe SUV, this could very well be it.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 could be your next SUV

With a starting price of around $40,000, the Ioniq 5 makes for a relatively affordable EV. It’s not necessarily cheap, but it is not as expensive as something like a new Tesla. MotorTrend has given the Ioniq 5 a score of 9.4/10, which is excellent.

The biggest problem this Hyundai SUV is currently facing is supply. Unfortunately, the Ioniq 5 is not available at every Hyundai dealership. But, hopefully, as 2023 gets in full swing, we will see more electric SUVs arriving in stores.

Even with these supply issues, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been getting plenty of praise. And it seems like it will be a big home run for the brand.
