Base Trim Levels of the Hyundai Palisade Explained
The 2022 Hyundai Palisade is one of the best SUVs in its class. If you’re looking for a sizeable vehicle with plenty of luxurious amenities at an affordable price, look no further. It shares its platform, and lots of other things, with the Kia Telluride but doesn’t seem to get as much praise. If you want the most affordable version of the Hyundai Palisade, you’ll want one of the two base trim levels.
Hyundai Palisade base trim levels
The 2022 Hyundai Palisade SUV has four trim levels total. Two of them are far more expensive than the two base options. For a starting price of $34,595 with destination fees, you can get the Palisade SE. This model comes with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone connectivity, voice activation, and more as standard features. Safety features like blind-spot collision avoidance, lane keep assist, parking distance warning, and more are all included.
Next, the SEL trim level is only a few thousand dollars more expensive. For $36,945, owners get everything the SE has, plus roof side rails, safe exit assist, and a power sunroof. Next, captain’s chairs replace the rear bench seat, heated front seats join the lineup, and a remote engine starter is included. Finally, satin chrome door handles, machined faced wheels, proximity key with push-button start, an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, dual-zone automatic temperature control, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink come with each Palisade SEL.
Which Hyundai Palisade should you buy?
Along with Car and Driver, we’d recommend going with the SEL trim. It provides owners with more important features than the SE but isn’t too much more expensive. Buying the mid-range SEL with the Premium package and AWD still ends up costing less than $43,000. That’s nearly $4,000 under the next highest, Limited, trim level. In addition, the Premium package adds a ton of value to the Palisade.
Opting for the Premium package gets you a more extensive 10.3-inch infotainment system. Next, in-dash navigation and Hyundai’s semi-autonomous driving mode are included. These add serious value for a low price, especially compared to the competition. Moving up to the Limited trim isn’t worth the extra cost. You can either skip the Premium package and AWD if you don’t need it and save tons of money or get all of it and still pay less than the Limited trim.
The Hyundai Palisade Limited is the worst value
Next, if you’re considering going above and beyond the base trim levels, go right to the top. Instead of stopping at the Limited trim, you might as well get the range-topping model. An all-wheel drive Limited model comes with Nappa-leather seating, heated and ventilated first and second-row seats, a 12-speaker Harman/Kardon audio system, and more. However, for just $925 more, the Calligraphy trim comes with standard all-wheel drive, everything the Limited model has, plus some.
While either base trim, especially SEL, is best, you should avoid the Limited trim level. It’s simply too close in price to its superior Calligraphy sibling. It’s very likely the automaker prices the Palisade that way on purpose, but it doesn’t make sense to buy a 2022 Hyundai Palisade Limited.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Palisade a good SUV?
Yes, the Hyundai Palisade is an excellent option in its segment. While its corporate cousin, the Kia Telluride, received all the praise, the Palisade is silently almost identical. The two share many features and similar driving abilities and aren’t entirely overpriced. We’d recommend the Palisade to anyone looking for an SUV of this size. The 2022 Hyundai Palisade is a luxury SUV without the luxury price.
