As summer approaches, rising fuel prices may have you thinking about buying a more fuel-efficient vehicle. Let’s explore seven hybrid vehicles with the best gas mileage to start your research.

Recently, Autotrader rounded up some of 2022’s best cars based on gas mileage. We’ll compare them based on EPA estimated fuel mileage, MSRP, and stand-out features. 

2022 Hyundai Ioniq Blue

According to Autotrader, the 2022 Hyundai Ioniq Blue’s 59 combined mpg (58 city/60 highway) earns it the top spot on the list of new cars with the best gas mileage. The Ioniq Blue squeezes 139 horsepower from its hybrid gasoline and electric power combination. 

As the Ioniq’s base model, the Ioniq Blue starts at $23,600 but still offers a host of advanced features such as wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, an 8-inch color touchscreen audio display, dual climate controls, forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, and lane-keeping assistance.

2022 Toyota Prius L Eco

As the previous gas mileage champ, the 2022 Toyota Prius L Eco remains a close second place based on its 56 combined mpg rating (53 city/58 highway). As the Prius base model, the Eco trim starts at $25,075 and comes equipped with a 1.8-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with an electric hybrid drive system to produce 121 horsepower. Safety features include a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, lane departure alert with steering assist, and radar-assisted cruise control. 

2022 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Blue

Offering impressive styling, the 2022 Hyundai Elantra Hybrid Blue gets 54 combined mpg (53 city/56 highway) with its 1.6-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain producing 139 horsepower and starts at $24,100. 

Safety features include blind-spot collision-avoidance assist, forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist, lake keep assist, lane following assist, and driver attention warning. Heated front seats, an 8-inch high-resolution touchscreen audio display, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto round out the interior features.

2022 Honda Insight EX

The 2022 model year is the last for the Honda Insight. Starting at $25,760, the Insight EX gets 52 combined mpg (49 city/55 highway) and features a 151-hp hybrid drivetrain. The Insight EX also features a full range of driver-assist and warning systems, including collision avoidance braking, road departure, and adaptive cruise control. Interior features include an 8-inch touchscreen audio system, automatic climate control, and rear-seat center armrests. 

2022 Toyota Corolla Hybrid LE

The 2022 Toyota Corolla Hybrid LE also gets 52 combined mpg (53 city/52 highway) but does so with 30 less horsepower (121 hp) and a $1,710 lower starting price ($24,050). The Corolla Hybrid LE features Eco and power driving modes for better gas mileage, a 7-inch infotainment display, and compatibility with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa. Safety systems include pre-collision braking with pedestrian detection, radar-assisted cruise control, and lane departure steering assistance. 

2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid LE

Although the 2022 Toyota Camry Hybrid LE tied with three other entrants for fourth place on our list with 52 combined mpg (51 city/53 highway), it stands out with 208 horsepower produced by its 2.5-liter four-cylinder based hybrid drivetrain. It’s also the highest-priced hybrid on our list at $27,480. The Camry Hybrid LE offers a similar suite of safety and convenience features as the Toyota Corolla Hybrid LE listed above but in a larger, more powerful package.

2022 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Blue

The final entrant on Autotrader’s list of new cars with the best gas mileage, and member of the 52 combined mpg (50 city/54 highway) tie, is the 2022 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Blue. The highest-priced Hyundai on the list, the $27,350 Sonata Hybrid Blue features the same convenience and safety systems as its Elantra Hybrid Blue and Ioniq Hybrid Blue stablemates but delivers 192 horsepower from its hybrid drivetrain.
