When Chrysler brought out the all-new Pacifica for 2017, it needed a worthy Town & Country replacement that would also cut into sales of Toyota and Honda minivans. Two years later, the automaker can largely declare victory with Pacifica topping both Odyssey and Sienna on the charts.
With the Pacifica Hybrid (a plug-in model), the nameplate can also claim a foothold in the electric vehicle segment. In brief, there’s no one-two punch quite like it on the U.S. market.
For the 2019 model year, Chrysler kept changes coming in exterior styling as well as interior tech and comfort. Here’s everything new you’ll find in the latest Pacifica due out later in the year.
1. Exterior upgrades
As lower-trim models keep getting upgraded across the industry, Chrysler added a bit more to the LX model (just above the base) for 2019 in the way of standard auto headlamps. On Touring L Plus models (near the top of the line), 17-inch polished wheels with gray pockets come standard.
The two new colors available for 2019 are Maximum Steel and Luxury White, which will be offered late in the model year. Eight other colors will carry over.
2. S Appearance Package
You might not think of a minivan as a candidate for the blacked-out look, but all Pacifica Hybrid models can get this treatment for the new model year. The S Appearance Package features an all-black exterior, 18-inch wheels with black finish, and gloss black accents on the exterior.
Inside, the package brings an all-black interior as well. Accents will be done in Light Diesel Gray, and the “S” logo will feature prominently in the cabin.
3. Interior tech
In the Pacifica Touring Plus, a standard auto-dim rearview mirror becomes standard, while UConnect Theater (with two 10-inch seat-back touchscreens) and Cold Weather Group become available. Touring L models (just above Touring Plus) get a heated steering wheel as well as the auto-dim mirror standard.
Standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto continue, as does the 7-inch touchscreen. (An 8.4-inch screen is also available.) A six-speaker audio system comes in every model.
4. Hybrid updates
Pacifica Hybrid Touring Plus (the base model) will get a standard auto-dim mirror for the first time in 2019. You can option up this model with the S Appearance package, Cold Weather Group, and 17-inch polished wheels.
Hybrid Touring L models (the next step up) get both the heated wheel and auto-dim mirror. Finally the range-topping Hybrid Limited gets the 17-inch wheels, power-folding mirrors, and memory settings for seats, stereo, and mirrors.
5. Carryover engine and fuel economy specs
There won’t be any mechanical changes to the 2019 Pacifica. The minivan’s gas engine remains the Pentastar V6 (287 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque) with nine-speed automatic transmission. Hybrid models add in a 16 kWh battery for 33 miles of all-electric range (566 miles total range).
Fuel economy specs remain the same for gas models at 22 mpg combined. Hybrid models achieve 84 MPGe in EV mode before switching to 32 mpg in hybrid mode. If you cover a lot of ground (15,000 miles or so), this powertrain will save you over $500 a year in fuel costs.
