If you’re a Marvel fan, then there is no doubt that you’ve seen Avengers: Endgame, which brought together the Marvel universe into one fantastic show on the screen. Chances are you were so busy watching all of the action-packed scenes to notice that the movie showcased a car that had yet to be officially released at the time: the Audi e-tron GT. In its starring role, the powerful EV was driven by Tony Stark, as played by Robert Downey Jr. AKA Iron Man. The actor himself was already a fan of the vehicle, and its role in the movie, being driven by the high-tech billionaire, made sense even if you didn’t realize what the vehicle was at the time.
Tony Stark is clearly a fan of Audi
Avengers: Endgame is far from the first time you see tech-wiz billionaire Tony Stark behind the wheel of an Audi vehicle. In the first Iron Man movie, you see him with the brand’s supercar, the Audi R8 — you know, the supercar that tricked us all into thinking you can daily drive a supercar. It doesn’t stop there, either, as you see him again in an Audi R8 Spyder in a later movie Iron Man movie.
The Audi e-tron GT
The Audi e-tron GT has a striking appearance that, at the time of the movie, may have been confusing to some viewers. While it is obviously an Audi in styling — and, of course, the four-rings that give the brand away — the e-tron GT had not yet made its official debut. Many viewers may have thought that the vehicle itself was a prototype or a concept created for the movie itself, and in some ways, they aren’t wrong. The Audi e-tron GT featured in the movie wasn’t a full production model, instead, it was a
Besides the electric vehicle itself, you probably missed something major
It makes sense for the character, Tony Stark, to be driving an electric vehicle, but if you’re doubling back to watch the movie again you may notice something weird. In fact, chances are unless you were paying attention, you didn’t think much of the car in the first place, as it was so new that most viewers didn’t recognize the car for the amazing piece of engineering that it is. What’s weirder is, when the car pulls up to the Avenger’s headquarters in the movie it sounds like a gasoline-powered vehicle.
The Audi e-tron GT plays an underrated role that is still very in-your-face as it drives directly towards the screen in a grand entrance. While you may have not have paid much mind to the new electric vehicle the first time around, you’ll certainly be paying attention the next time you watch it.
