The electric vehicle (EV) segment is heating up, with more and more well-known automakers committing to electrify. The BMW i4, Audi e-tron GT, and Ford Mustang Mach-E GT are a handful of fast, practical EVs to keep an eye on. However, which one is the best electric car for you?

BMW i4 vs. Audi e-tron GT vs. Mustang Mach-E GT: Which car is the fastest?

In a test of getting to 60 mph fastest, the Audi e-tron GT is the victor, depending on the trim. According to Car and Driver, the standard e-tron GT packs 522 horsepower, while the RS variant bumps power up to a whopping 637. The result of all that power is an electric Audi that will sprint to sixty in just 2.9 seconds. That’s nearly half a second faster than the BMW i4 M50, which made the run in 3.3 seconds.

Still, the BMW is swift, considering it’ll outrun an M3 Competition to 60 mph. However, the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT is hopeless to catch the other two EVs. Ford says that the Mach-E GT will make the sprint in 3.5 seconds. While impressive, it is quite a bit slower than the Audi e-tron GT.

BMW i4 vs. Audi e-tron GT vs. Mustang Mach-E GT: Which car has the best range?

While the lightning-fast Audi e-tron GT has the other two beat in outright acceleration, it pays for it in range. Specifically, Audi claims 81 mpg city and 83 mpg at highway speeds. The Mach-E GT fares better in the city mileage with 90. However, it lets Ford fans down with 77 mpg highway. The BMW performs best, with the i4 M50 achieving 94 mpg city and 98 mpg highway.

You’ll need to look at lower trim levels for the best electric-equivalent mpg. For instance, BMW says the i4 eDrive40 will manage 109 mpg equivalent in the city and 108 highway. Also, the BMW remains ahead of the Mach-E at lower trim. Ford says the Premium will accomplish 105 city and 93 highway, but not enough to dethrone the BMW at either trim.

Is the Ford Mustang Mach-E GT cheaper than the BMW i4 and the Audi e-tron GT?

The Ford Mustang Mach-E GT and the 2022 BMW i4 M50 are much cheaper than the Audi e-tron GT. The most affordable EV is the Mach-E GT, with a starting manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) of $63,095. Next is the BMW i4 M50, which comes close to the Ford at $66,895.

You might think those prices aren’t close, but they are spare change compared to the Audi. The 2022 Audi e-tron GT Premium Plus has a starting price of $103,895. That means the BMW is nearly $37,000 cheaper than the Audi EV.

Which EV should you buy?

In perhaps every category other than aesthetics and performance, the BMW is the smart choice among these three EVs. According to TrueCar, BMW gets excellent range and isn’t much more expensive than the Ford model. Furthermore, while the Audi is faster, the difference between them is less than half a second to 60 mph. However, like Car and Driver says, if you want the quickest ride on the list, you’ll have to spring for the Audi.
