Does Artisan Red Work on the New 2024 Mazda CX-90?
The 2024 Mazda CX-90 receives the torch from the outgoing CX-9, bringing a new top model to the brand lineup. This new Mazda SUV will debut in January, giving us the Kodo Design philosophy and a new paint color. Instead of the classic red, we’ve admired from Mazda for years, this new model shows up in a new Artisan Red paint. Will this new paint color work well for the 2024 Mazda CX-90?
Is there going to be a Mazda CX-90?
Originally, Mazda led us to believe the CX-9 would depart from the market in 2023, making way for the new CX-90. Some delays have caused Mazda to push the CX-90 back to the 2024 model year, giving the current CX-9 one more year as the only three-row SUV from this premium marquee.
How much will the 2024 Mazda CX-90 cost?
When this Mazda three-row SUV arrives, it should carry a starting price of around $40,000. This is fitting for the premium place this Mazda holds in the market. The price increase compared to the CX-9 is fitting, considering the upscale design language brought by this new SUV.
Will Mazda discontinue the CX-9 when the new CX-90 arrives?
The trim lineup of the current Mazda CX-9 is already shrinking. For the 2023 model year, the base Sport trim will not be offered. This could be in preparation for the new CX-90 or simply the lack of sales for this starting trim of the three-row crossover.
Once the CX-90 arrives at dealerships, the CX-9 will begin to fade into oblivion. The 2023 model year will be the final year for the current Mazda three-row crossover SUV.
Why is this new Mazda SUV exciting?
The new 2024 Mazda CX-90 is the first vehicle in the North American market to use the new powertrain. This new powertrain gives us a turbocharged six-cylinder engine that makes 300 horsepower. Eventually, a plug-in hybrid version will arrive, but the real buzz is around this new powertrain.
The powertrain signals a desire to move the Mazda name closer to luxury brands. Specifically, this power system is a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. With this engine under the hood, the new CX-90 might be the most performance-oriented Mazda in the lineup.
Still, some unknowns that we’ll learn in January
As much as we want to speculate about everything this new flagship crossover offers, many of the details remain unreleased, creating a bit of a long tease until we see the new 2024 Mazda CX-90 in January.
This new model should offer more luxury features, have a larger interior cabin than the CX-9, and it could include standard AWD across the range. This new longitudinal-engine build allows the CX-90 to possibly have a base model that uses RWD instead of the FWD offers on other Mazda SUVs.
Of course, most of what we know is speculative outside of the release date and engine. We aren’t sure what the differences are between Artisan Red and the classic red from Mazda, but when this SUV debuts in January, it will finally answer the title question.
