The Super Bowl is the biggest sporting event in America. Every year people around the country tune in to see this game. Some watch it for the game on the field, others watch it for the halftime show, but everyone watches the commercials. This year, BMW features the new all-electric iX crossover SUV with an interesting pair of characters inside.

The BMW iX goes on sale in a month, but you’ll get a view of this impressive electric luxury SUV during the first quarter of the Super Bowl. The commercial spot highlighted by BMWBLOG features Arnold Schwarzenegger and Salma Hayek Pinault. The two play the Greek god Zeus and goddess Hera who has retired from Mt. Olympus in favor of a quiet life in Palm Springs, California.

Life is not as quiet as it should be

Once the neighbors realize they have Zeus living amongst them, the residents of Palm Springs spend time asking this god for a charge to their electrical devices. During the commercial, the character gets aggravated with his neighbors, who constantly ask for a charge. From a set of electric hedge trimmers to a golf cart, the continued request for his power of lightning is wearing on Zeus.

But Hera has the answer.

With Zeus frustrated and ready to return to Mt. Olympus, Hera does what any good wife would do; she fixes the problem. Hera appears in the driveway with a brand-new BMW iX SUV and informs Zeus that the vehicle is all-electric, which excited him.

The end of the commercial shows the two former leaders of Mt. Olympus happily driving along in their electric SUV while Zeus changes all the red lights to green so they can go wherever they want. Yes, you can even hear “Electric Avenue” by Eddy Grant playing in the background as the two sing along.

Should you drive the 2022 BMW iX?

The happiness displayed by Arnie and Salma during the Super Bowl commercial makes you want to drive the BMW iX, but you don’t have the powers of Zeus. You can’t keep the batteries continuously charged or turn the lights green. That shouldn’t stop you, though.

The all-new, all-electric iX gives you plenty of power and driving range. Standard power reaches 523 horsepower and 564 lb.-ft. of torque. An M60 variant of the BMW iX will arrive later and will reach more than 600 horsepower. When this SUV arrives next month, it will provide up to 300 miles of driving on a full charge.

Is the interior of the iX crossover SUV comfortable?

There is ample room for five people with excellent legroom for each person inside this BMW SUV. Behind the rear seats is 34 cubic feet of cargo space, more than enough for a weekend away from home. The most interesting feature of the cabin is the hexagonal steering wheel, which is possibly a signal to the next generation of electric BMW models. The dashboard presents a 14.9-inch curved infotainment touchscreen in the center and a 12.3-inch driver information screen behind the steering wheel.

No matter what, the commercial is fun to watch

Both Schwarzenegger and Hayek Pinault bring their unique brand of humor to the commercial, which feels more like real life than we might like to admit. Whether or not you make the BMW iX the electric SUV you drive, you’ll certainly remember Zeus and Hera tooling along on the streets of Palm Springs after you watch the Super Bowl.
