Looking for a rideshare service that offers more than just a car ride from A to B? A new app called Protector just entered the market, bringing an added layer to traditional rideshares. Available now on the iOS and Mac App Store, the app provides users with a vehicle and a personal security detail composed of former military or law enforcement staff. Unlike Uber or Lyft, the whole point is that the drivers come armed and ready to, well, protect their occupants.

The app launched this week in Los Angeles and New York City. Nikita Bier, a mobile app advisor, described the service on X, calling it “Uber with guns.” Protector allows users to customize their ride by selecting how many security personnel they want onboard, as well as their dress code. Options range from business formal suits to full tactical gear.

Beyond the number of protectors, users can also choose to book up to three vehicles for a full motorcade experience. A standard booking, such as one Cadillac Escalade with a single armed protector, would cost around $1,000 for a five-hour minimum ride. The fare can be split among up to five passengers, KTLA shared.

Protector requires a membership to access its services, with an annual fee of $129. For now, the service is only available in two major cities, LA and NYC, but if successful, it could expand to other locations. While the app is still in its early days, it sure caters to those seeking something a bit different from Uber: Both luxury and security in their rideshare experience.
