Arizona driver charged with “Super-Extreme DUI” after crashing his car and getting a White Claw can stuck on his finger

In a bizarre series of events in Skull Valley, Arizona, a man was arrested on multiple DUI charges after an unusual struggle involving a can of White Claw hard seltzer. A deputy with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office witnessed a vehicle veer off the road. Next, it crashed into a guardrail and came to a stop, blocking the roadway.
What the deputy encountered next was the kind of scene you’d expect in a comedy sketch. Authorities shared the video shared on YCSO’s Facebook page. As the deputy approaches the wrecked vehicle, the driver has his window rolled up. He waves with his left hand at the officer and rolls his window down, holding his right hand away toward the passenger seat. “What you got on your finger there?” The officer asks, but he doesn’t wait for a response. “White Claw,” the deputy asserts.
The driver struggles (unsuccessfully) to remove a seemingly empty White Claw can from his finger. When the deputy asks what’s going on, the driver tries to act completely cool. “I’m totally perfect,” he says.
Spoiler: He wasn’t.
The deputy quickly determined that the driver wasn’t just dealing with an embarrassing finger predicament. He was likely under the influence. The driver was arrested and AZ Central says he was charged with a laundry list of offenses: DUI Slightest, DUI, Extreme DUI, Super-Extreme DUI, endangerment involving domestic violence, and criminal damage.
Here’s a quick breakdown of those DUI charges
Arizona has some of the strictest DUI laws in the country, with varying levels based on blood alcohol content (BAC). A DUI Slightest charge applies when someone’s impaired to the slightest degree, even if their BAC is below 0.08%. Extreme DUI kicks in for a BAC of 0.15% or higher, while Super-Extreme DUI covers BAC levels of 0.20% or more. If you’re wondering, this driver probably hit every mark, although we don’t know of any actual test results. We’re assuming the officer presented a wide range of DUI levels to cover all that might apply to the case above.
In addition to the DUIs, he faces criminal damage charges for crashing into the guardrail, which Yavapai County Public Works will now have to repair. The endangerment charge suggests there might have been another person involved, hence the domestic violence tag, but officials didn’t specify.
While the situation reads humourous, it’s still a reminder of the dangers of impaired driving. Swerving off the road and striking a guardrail could’ve ended far worse…for both the driver and others. As for the White Claw can? That little detail may make him infamous, but it won’t lighten the hefty legal process.
