Winter is on the way, and you might want a Mazda MX-5 Miata, but you need a sports car that can handle the snow. The good news is that there are several sports cars with all-wheel drive (AWD) for better winter grip and even moderate levels of snow. Check out these AWD sports cars that are good enough to handle a little snow, like the Audi TT or Jaguar F-Type.

  • Audi RS 5
  • Mercedes-Benz SL

Does the Audi TT have AWD?

The Audi TT is one of the gold standards of an AWD sports car you can use in the winter. The 2022 Audi TT 2.0T packs a 228-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a seven-speed automatic transmission. Better yet, with AWD and all-season tires, the little TT is eager to tackle inclement weather more than rivals like the rear-wheel drive (RWD) Porsche 718 Cayman. The 2022 Audi TT is a solid contender for a sports car to handle the snow, especially with a set of snow tires.

Is a Jaguar F-Type with AWD good in the snow?

While the F-Type might not be the first image in your mind when you think of a sports car in the snow, it has its merits. The 2022 Jaguar F-Type offers multiple trims with AWD, including a fire-breathing 575-horsepower 5.0L V8 mill in the F-Type R. However, if sensibility is higher than horsepower on your priorities list, the entry-level F-Type produces 444 horsepower from a similar powerplant.

Is a Dodge Challenger SXT AWD a good sports car for winter and snow?

The Dodge Challenger SXT offers optional AWD for potential owners who want a sports car coupe that’s good in the snow. That is, compared to the V8-powered RWD Challengers, Ford Mustangs, and Chevrolet Camaros. In fact, the Challenger SXT and GT are the only traditional muscle car coupes on the market that pack optional AWD. However, the Challenger’s V8s are only available with a RWD platform.

Unfortunately, that means no 5.7L, 6.4L, or supercharged 6.2L Hellcat V8s for fans who want a Challenger to tackle challenging climates. Still, the comparable Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro neglect an AWD option altogether.

Is the Audi RS 5 AWD?

The 2022 Audi RS 5 packs sharp and sticky AWD, which incidentally makes it a solid sports car option for the snow, too. The RS 5 coupe packs a turbocharged 2.9L V6 engine with 444 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. However, even with all of that power, the sports coupe still sends power to all four tires, making it a solid wintertime prospect. At the very least, it’s a better sports car option for the snow than a RWD sports car like the now-discontinued Alfa Romeo 4C.

Is the Mercedes-Benz SL sports car good for the snow?

Unlike previous generations of the Mercedes-Benz SL, like the R107 and R230, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz SL offers AWD ready to take its good looks against the snow. The new AMG SLs come in two trims, the AMG SL 55 and AMG SL 63, each starting well above $130,000. However, both AWD winter-ready sports cars promise to hit 60 mph in less than 4.0 seconds, with the range-topping SL 63 doing it in 3.5 seconds, according to TrueCar. Both 2022 Mercedes-Benz SL models are year-round sports cars with snow-ready AWD.
