The tale of the Blue Oval’s first-ever fully-electric vehicle is the story of an underdog. America loves an underdog. Thousands of Ford fans learned to love the Mach-E despite its deviation from conventional Blue Oval design language. It’s a Mustang, yet it’s an SUV, and the cherry on top is that it doesn’t use gas. The Mustang Mach-E was once the family oddball, but it has found its place and purpose in Ford’s current lineup.

Despite all its differences, the Mustang Mach-E does have something in common with previous Mustang models. Power. The Mustang Mach-E produces enough power to be worthy of the Mustang name (to some drivers). It may not necessarily be a muscle car, but this SUV’s got some giddyup. The Mach-E GT really solidifies the small electric SUV as a worthy member of Ford’s portfolio.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E got plenty of attention when it debuted. It even won some awards early on. Today, the Mach-E is losing some of its luster as competitors overshadow it. Part of the reason why the Mach-E seems to be getting left behind is the reliability issues it faced.

The EV experienced some problems that could deter drivers from getting one, including losing power and becoming completely immobile. The nameplate is going through growing pains. The question is, can it bounce back?

Is the 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E a good SUV?

The 2023 Ford Mustang Mach-E starts at $45,995. It makes 266 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. The Mach-E gets 224 miles of standard driving range.

Ford’s small electric SUV produces decent power, and its standard driving range is average. It has an attractive exterior design and a modern interior. The EV won an Editor’s Choice award from Car and Driver. It’s considered one of the best new small electric SUVs for 2023, but it doesn’t take the top spot.

The 2023 Tesla Model Y base model is finally available after a long hiatus. It starts at $49,990. The small electric SUV can go from 0-60 miles per hour in just five seconds. It has at least 269 miles of driving range on a full charge.

The Tesla Model Y costs $3,995 more than Ford’s small electric SUV, but it has more range. It’s also quicker than the Mustang Mach-E Select by about 0.8 seconds. The Model Y has experienced reliability issues, but the nameplate is more seasoned than the Mustang Mach-E. Based on specs and recent reliability issues, Tesla’s small electric SUV has the upper hand.
