There are multiple ways to travel, but commercial flying is one of the most popular. In fact, millions of plane passengers make their way through airports each year. Because of this, this idea of a refund isn’t uncommon, but what happens when a company like American Airlines refunds far more money than it should? One person was charged millions after a mistake, and now they’re worried about their reward points.

These American Airlines plane passengers are worried about their credit card points

There are many times when plane passengers must request refunds for their tickets. It could be due to a scheduling conflict or any other issue. According to View From The Wing, one American Airlines passenger had to do this for their $1,000 ticket. However, upon checking their American Express statement, they learned that the popular airline had refunded them $100,000 instead of the necessary $1,000.

This is where the story gets interesting with the plane passenger. They called American Airlines to alert them of the mistake, but the representative assured them it was correct. From there, the person filed a dispute with their credit card company in order to have the windfall corrected. After some digging, American Express learned there was an issue with the conversion factor. For context, the person planning to travel bought the ticket outside of the U.S.

However, it wasn’t over for this airplane passenger. In trying to fix the mistake, the customer got charged $28 million. The person wondered why American Express would even approve the transaction, but now they’re worried about their rewards points and credit score. There’s no way the mistake won’t be fixed, but it could have long-lasting impacts on their life. In many ways, this proves why people should always check their statements after large transactions, as even the most reputable companies can make mistakes. Hopefully, the person also gets their reward points back.
