Korean automaker Genesis is owned by Hyundai, a company known for creating fuel-efficient vehicles like the Accent and Kona. Currently, Genesis offers three different types of luxury vehicles: the G70, G80, and G90. Another Genesis car, dubbed the GV80, will be released this summer.

The GV80 is an SUV, but for now, the G90 is the largest Genesis car available on the current market. So far, it has excellent reviews from both critics and consumers. U.S. Car News rated the G90 as the best large luxury car you can buy for 2019. Does it have enough standard features to justify its large price tag?

The Genesis G90’s powertrain

The standard Genesis G90 comes with a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 engine. It’s capable of 365 hp and is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is available for those who want to upgrade.

In real-world testing, the G90 has proven itself to be quite speedy. Car and Driver found that it can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.3 seconds. There is a more powerful V8 offered in the next trim, but reviewers noted that there’s not much of a difference. Despite its adequate power, the G90 is not very good on gas. The EPA estimates that it only has a combined score of 20 mpg.

The luxurious interior

The G90 comes with many high-class cabin features. Wood and suede accents are a nice touch, and the seats are made from Nappa leather. The seats come with standard heating and ventilation. A heating steering wheel is also included.

The seats are very comfortable, and there’s plenty of room in the second row for adults to stretch their legs. There’s also a large standard sunroof. Cargo space is a little disappointing since it has a trunk instead of being a hatchback. However, the trunk does come standard with a hands-free power lid. The G90 also has one of the largest center consoles out of any large luxury sedan.

Safety offerings

The G90 may be one of the safest luxury cars to drive because it has so many standard safety features. Forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assistance, parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic emergency braking are all included. Even more advanced features like driver drowsiness warning and a head-up display are standard.

The IIHS named the Genesis G90 a Top Safety Pick+ thanks to its impeccable crash test scores. It received a Good rating in every category, plus a Superior score for Front Crash Prevention. According to Consumer Reports, its reliability is average at three out of five.

Infotainment setup

There’s plenty of technology to keep passengers engaged in the Genesis G90. For 2020, standard smartphone integration for both Apple and Android devices was added. The car also has Bluetooth, a premium audio system with 17 speakers, built-in navigation, and satellite radio.

Wireless charging is included along with plenty of USB ports. The G90 also sports a massive 12.3-inch touchscreen. Its interface is very intuitive, with integrated physical controls to help navigate through the various menus.

Does the Genesis G90 give good value?

As with any luxury car, the 2020 Genesis G90 is fairly expensive. For the base trim, you can expect to pay around $73,195. The higher 5.0 trim costs $76,695. However, given the large number of features already included in the standard trim, there’s little need to upgrade.

It’s also worth noting that rivals with similar price tag have much fewer included features. A similar BMW sedan has many of the same technology offerings but no connectivity options for Android Auto. For a basically fully loaded luxury car, the Genesis G90 is a great bang for your buck.
