After Hyundai, Kia Recalls Telluride Over Power Seat Problem That Could Cause Injury

Kia is recalling 568 units of the 2027 Telluride Hybrid SUV and halting sales of SX Prestige and X-Line SX Prestige models with the optional Executive Package due to a rear power-seat issue, which may cause the rear seats to continue moving while the passenger is in the seat when the feature is activated.

This comes after Hyundai recalled more than 69,000 units of its Palisade SUV and halted sales after the death of a two-year-old child in Ohio due to the power seat problem.

Kia is recalling only the SX Prestige and X-Line SX Prestige models with the optional Executive Package, which are sold with the power second-row and “one-touch” tilt-and-slide seating.

According to The Drive, Kia stated that the power seat “may not detect obstructions and may continue to move if these features are used while an occupant is in the seat or is entering/exiting the rear of the vehicle.”

This could be a bad start for Kia with the 2027 Telluride since it just began arriving at the dealerships, while the 2026 Hyundai Palisade model reached dealerships last summer.

Kia and Hyundai Are on The Same Seat

Like Hyundai, a solution to the problem is being worked on, and as a result, Kia has had to halt sales of its best-selling mid-size SUV.

Until a permanent fix arrives, Kia has advised customers to prevent children from sitting in the rear seats during the power-folding operation. Owners could expect Kia to reach out to them with a solution before May 19.

MotorBiscuit reported the issue with the power seats on Hyundai’s Palisade SUV. The South Korean manufacturer revealed four more injuries recently as a result of the problem.

The problem was first noted in August 2025 when Hyundai received three complaints about the rear power seat, which was then treated as a low-risk issue.

However, Hyundai stopped sales of the vehicle on March 17 after the death of a two-year-old child due to a problem with the powered seat.

The 2026 Palisade Limited and Calligraphy variants displayed a similar problem with the second- and third-row power seat assemblies that may not respond to contact with an occupant during the activation of certain functions.

Hyundai is working with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) for an official recall so that the permanent fix can be performed at local dealerships free of charge once the solution is developed.

Hyundai Palisade owners affected by the power seat problem are cautioned against placing a child or pet on the second- and third-row seats when pressing any of the power-folding buttons.

Owners are also advised to avoid pressing the second-row seatback button when passengers are climbing into or out of the third row.
