Why is the Kona Electric only sold in certain states?
According to Cars.com, supply constraints are seriously affecting the Kona Electric, and those issues are not just limited to the Hyundai brand. Because of that, this electric SUV is not sold in every state, at least yet.
Hopefully, in the future, Hyundai is able to expand the production of the Kona Electric, allowing more buyers the ability to purchase one. Additionally, the EV version of the Kona has faced some issues globally. Hyundai was forced to discontinue this vehicle after just three years in South Korea.
Should you buy a Hyundai EV?
The 2022 Hyundai Kona Electric is fairly similar to its gas-powered version. Because of that, it can feel less radical than other EVs that are currently on the market. For its price point, the Kona Electric is decent enough, even with the SEL trim level.
The SEL trim comes well-equipped, it has a standard 10.3-inch digital gauge display and a number of different features. Buyers can also outfit it with the optional Convenience package which adds about $3,500 to the base cost of this vehicle.
Included with the Convenience package are things like a sunroof, heated seating, and wireless cell phone charging. So, the price might be justified for those looking for more features in their EV.
Is Hyundai discontinuing the Kona Electric?
It doesn’t look like Hyundai is planning to discontinue the Kona Electric, at least here in the States. For 2024, there should be a redesigned model that is still available with a gas or electric powertrain depending on your preference.
Hyundai has been pushing the envelope with its hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric vehicles. So it makes sense that the brand is invested in the future of the automotive industry.
