If you’re looking for a reliable, sporty sedan with a luxurious feel, the Acura ILX is a great option. This vehicle is perfect for those who want to enjoy the ride while maintaining good fuel economy and performance. But does the Acura ILX need premium gas? After all, it is considered a luxury sedan.

Powertrain and performance capabilities

The 2022 Acura ILX comes standard with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine producing 201 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque. According to MotorTrend, “Shifting duties are handled by a slick eight-speed dual-clutch automatic, and front-wheel drive is the only option. The EPA estimates that the ILX is good for 24/34 mpg city/highway.” Those are pretty respectable numbers for a sedan in its class, making it a great option for those looking to save some money on gas without sacrificing performance or luxury features.

Premium gasoline recommendation

Acura recommends drivers use premium gas when fueling up their 2022 ILX. But why? The answer lies in octane rating—the higher the rating, the less likely it is your engine will experience knocking or pinging due to fuel combustion issues caused by low octane levels. If you were to use regular unleaded gasoline instead of premium, which has an octane rating of 91, your engine could suffer from decreased power output, reduced overall efficiency, and increased emissions levels—none of which are desirable outcomes if you’re hoping to get the most out of your vehicle.

Standard and available features to make the most of every drive

Car and Driver states, “As with other cars in this segment, the Acura ILX‘s cabin is roomy for the driver and the front-seat passenger.” You’ll also get a wide range of standard features, including 17-inch wheels, LED headlights, a power moonroof, keyless entry and ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, and heated front seats.

If you’re looking for more, some models come equipped with the A-Spec package. This package adds on sporty styling elements such as 18-inch wheels, a rear spoiler, and unique exterior and interior accents.

Discontinuation after the 2022 model year

Unfortunately, Acura has decided not to make any major updates or upgrades to the ILX after this model year and will be phasing it out in favor of other models in their lineup, such as the TLX and RLX sedans. While this decision may come as a disappointment to fans of the car, it does make sense, considering how much competition there is in today’s market for midsize sedans like these.

Should I buy the 2022 Acura ILX?

The 2022 Acura ILX promises drivers reliability, performance, comfort, and style, all packed into one sleek package. With its impressive fuel economy ratings and powerful engine options coupled with an 8-speed dual clutch transmission—this car is sure to turn heads no matter where you go! Even though production of this model has ended, it’s sure to remain popular among consumers who appreciate luxury cars at an affordable price point.
